Yes, update bmc and bios and see options in bios at advanced, there is something there cannot remember by head.
You might also have issues login on bmc web as root on these emc branded.

1st as advised to a bios update, find relevant files on downloadcenter.intel.com I believe is s2600gl on that model.
get the whole package, bmc bios and sdr and put in on a fat32 stick then efi boot and run startup nsh

after that goto BIOS > Advanced > System Acoustic and Performance Configuration and play with options there specially with quiet fan idle mode.
Also, make sure the lid is closed and perf is set to balanced.

I got one turning up in a few days, only gripe is the 2.5 inch bays. I have a bunch of 3.5.

I'll use a ssd for the os, I need at least 8tb for media storage. Wondering if a bunch of shucked 4tb Seagate expansion drives would work ok. Don't need fast storage.

Unfortunately with those I was not that lucky, had one failed in less then a month and no workload on it.
Back to topic, these are very nice servers, 60W idle, many options as I/O you can have decent raid + x520 internally and no pcie slot used.
Careful on the pcie ssds, you will have trouble on that regard if you plan any

Just arrived, looks brand new. I cant decide if I should use the hardware raid or Linux software raid. How reliable are the controllers?

Looks like it came with it. So best to use the hardware controller to setup raid to get best performance.
