What is this Magic??!?

Is this a CygWin all grown up? I'm confused as to the middleware that's negotiating the hardware I/O. Is this virtualization or Windows installation of the Linux kernel or ?????

I assume they are running it as a kind of vm, maybe with a pass through kind of mode to see/get the actual hw (?)

I don't what the big deal is here. It was always possible to run linux vms on top of windows. But I guess now it's really easy.

Maybe the end result isn't that much different but now it's been officially "sanctioned" by the Microsoft gods. It's built in, native.
