tplink support sent me a link to a newer beta release. I didn’t see it in their forum during my quick search yesterday but they will provide upon request.

T1700G-28TQ(UN)_V2_180206_Beta.rar

Going to give it a whirl tonight and then hopefully get some time to setup logging to see if/when it crashes next.

Mine crashed again yesterday, uptime of 34.2 days. It’s getting worse.

Since this link is dead, would it be possible for you to report back if it has any issues? That and provide a mirror. I may be having the mac forwarding issue. I have a laser printer that stays online, but disappears when to goes to standby.

@compuguy their site doesn't like the referral link. Copy and paste the url into a new clean tab and it'll download.

I'm not sure what firmware mine is running, but I haven't updated it in many months. It has been absolutely rock solid, with no issues for me.

Great performance, fully featured, silent; I'd recommend it to anyone.

Hi all -

Thanks for sharing your usage results, I'm considering this switch - can anyone please confirm if the connection problems with this switch have been resolved in newer firmware?

Thanks in advance!

That's great. Much thanks for quick reply!

Would you happen to know if there was an official production firmware release, if not is the beta firmware freely available or would I have to contact support?

The link to the beta BIOS further up still works, but I'm also curious why they don't seem to have released a production firmware in the last year...

Odd, the link didn't work for me, gives me an "Access Denied" error.

Yeah, I'd feel much better if the fix was included in the official production firmware. I'll send them a note, see what they'll say.

Thanks, the link works.

I also reached out to TP Link support, they were very quick to respond and said that they reached out to developers to release the fix in Beta firmware version to Production. So hopefully we should see an official release soon.

Have you experienced any other issues with this switch?

Figured I'd ask before I pull the trigger and order it :)

I bought mine in March of 2017 and have had 0 issues with it. Maybe I'm lucky.

I don't stress the switch too much with any kinds of crazy network loads though..

In evaluating whether or not to bother attempting 10Gb at home again, I've borrowed one of these switches from a mate and ran into an interesting problem. I didn't think it warranted its own thread but it's definitely a "WTF" connection issue.

Took the switch, zeroed out the existing config (didn't erase it but just deleted the obvious settings) and then applied my own VLAN rules to it and swapped it in for my current switch. About 30s of downtime all told, no apparent loss of connectivity between the handful of computers on my various LANs.

But in checking my HTPC and one of my laptops, I noticed that neither were able to talk over NFS to my file server. Ping, ssh both worked, nmap showed all the ports were open and I could happily shunt traffic across any of the random ports that were open. But any attempt to access, mount or unmount an NFS filesystem resulted in the usual let's-hang-everything-while-we-wait NFS behaviour. Dropping all of the iptables rules didn't change this one iota, nor moving the VLANs, nor taking the router out of the equation. tcpdump and rpcdebug showed that traffic was being blocked between server and client somehow even though testing TCP and UDP across those very same NFS ports worked fine.

After tearing my wig off for most of the night, I discovered it appears to be down to the switches' network security features called DoS Defend; I'm not sure if this is enabled OotB or not but as soon as I disabled it (all of the rules were enabled), NFS sprang back to life.

By turning the rules on globally again, rebooting the NFS client (as it didn't seem to trigger if the client was already connected) and disabling the rules one at a time it transpires that it was the "SYN sPort less 1024" rule that was causing NFS to be blocked; with the ruleset set to the following [see attachment] NFS works as expected. From the TP-Link PDF:

The attacker sends the illegal packet with its TCP SYN field set to 1 and source
port smaller than 1024.
I suspect it's portmapper traffic on :111 that's triggering this, or potentially one of the other privileged ports.

It looks like the same rules are present on a lot of TP-Link firmwares so this might potentially affect other devices also, so hopefully someone finds this useful.

Since this thread has many T1700G-28TQ owners - does anyone know if T1700G-28TQ can do QOS by MAC Address or IP ?

I found references to V3 hardware and the corresponding 3.0.0 build 20190108 firmware on the TP-Link Australia site: Download for T1700G-28TQ | TP-Link Australia

The US site still lists only V1 and V2 with the V2 firmware older than the beta linked earlier in the thread. The firmware notes also seem to indicate that flashing it on V2 hardware is expected and supported: "2. If your device's Hardwaer[sic] Version is 2.0, after upgrading to this firmware, the old configuration will be lost."

I went ahead and tried 3.0.0 on my V1 hardware and it seems to work fine so far. I'm still configuring things but haven't run into anything broken so far except the system info pane showing my hardware as version 3 and not showing my serial number.

Screenshot at 2019-05-30 14-48-23.png

I'm excited to see how it will perform and if it will be stable.
