Bind mounts are directly available, and perform just like the underlying filesystem. SMB adds overhead from the SMB and network stacks. For local VM sharing, the difference is probably a few percent CPU honestly, but why add overhead you don't need?

Note that it only works for containers, LXC. You can't bind mount to VMs.
Kind of what I though too - I'll look into moving to bind mounts.
