A few month ago I imported some ICX7000-1X40GQ's for a 7450... they've been sitting on a shelf since then.
Today i wanted to add one to the switch only to find that it doesn't fit in the module bay. I thought that all these modules for the various officially compatible switches were identical, but a comparison shows that the 40GQ has a longer tray than the 4x10GF I had in the slot before.

Edit - another difference is that the short tray one has a flexible length (pull out) bracket for insertion/removal while the long one has a fixed one....

I assume I can simply shorten the tray finger a bit to make it fit, but am quite surprised that there are multiple versions out there...

@fohdeesha - do you happen to know which switch models which of the tray is intended for? Or is it a revision thing?

I have no idea, have you tried all 3 module slots on the 7450? I know the 40GB module is only supported in two of the slots if I remember right (the rear I think), wouldn't surprise me if they keyed them to stop people from ****ing it up

I have tried both rear ones which is where i have the QSFP modules on my other 7450's.
There is a blocking piece at the switch bottom which prevents the module from being fully pushed in.

On a related note, any idea how to get a Arista 100GBase-SR4 QSFP28 working?
Its fine in my MLX switches (although it requires a High Power slot/configuration) but its not detected in the Brocades.

Thanks,
cheers

As I understand it, QSFP28 cannot work in a QSFP+ port. But q QSFP+ can be inserted into a QSFP28 port.

Nah, they work fine in my MLX SX60xx's with high power transceivers enabled :)

Huh, interesting. On the original question, I think your module that doesn't fit was either intended for a different switch and mislabeled or is a manufacturing defect. Here are 4 modules from my spares pile, 2 are 4x10G and 2 are QSFP+:

I have 3 identical modules, and have two more with shorter tray (the same as the two 4:1 modules).

I also think that they are intended for a different model than the 7450, thats why i mentioned this.
Up until know I thought that the same QSFP module was used in all models which apparently is not true.

O/c its only a mechanical difference so shortening the tray was a simple solution, but I was/am curious :)

that's really bizarre, they're clearly the same (identical) part as the normal 7450 module, never seen that before. I would just chop it off with a dremel if you haven't already. That tray that sticks out further on the bottom doesn't come off or fold in with the quick release handle does it?

Lol,
I suppose, but it does not bother at all ;)

Any idea re activating high power transceivers btw?
