So, I picked up an IBM RackSwitch G8124E to play with. The price was right and I wanted to update it to the latest firmware before the playing begins. It's running 7.7.3 at the moment and I see 8.4.6 is available for download. So, I grabbed the 8.4.6 package and notice it has two images (boot and OS), but the web GUI just asks for a single update file. Uploading a ZIP file just gives a failed firmware upload in the log, and I'm leary of trying to upload one of the firmwares by itself because I've seen too many articles here about people bricking these switches. From what I can see, you're supposed to use the "Lenovo Management Tools" to manage firmware packages, but, in true IBM/Lenovo fashion, there's no reference to where to get this or if you can even get it without a support agreement. Has anyone successfully updated code on these?
