Does anyone have much experience with these or are aware? One of the vendors that I purchase often from just posted a bunch and the price is right for a project at work with 6 computers. I'm just am not too experienced with 10GbE except over the Mellanox IB world.

Wondering if they'd work with the Brocade cheapo 10GbE cards perhaps?

The other alternative that I was looking into were the MX6012s for small switches, but could best offer this for much less than the Mellanox.

edit:
Just saw the post from last week about the damaged ones going for $899.

Gives me a price point to offer at since these are new w/warranty.

I do not know the answer about the brocade cards since i have not tested that particular switch. But generally, how is the compatibility between different 10Gbe gear?
I have read that i.e. the brocade cards may only work with brocade twinax cables. In turn certain switches does not like the brocade twinax cables etc etc.

There is no way to know beforehand which cables works with which NICs and switches? Is testing the only way to find out?:/

In general Brocade 1020 cards work with any switch and 10GbE card as long as you use fiber and Brocade branded transceivers in Brocade cards.
I bought a IBM G8000 last week with 4x 10GbE SFP+ ports but it's still in transit, so I'll have a general idea soon how well these switches work.

Awesome! Glad to have sometime test on hardware and tell us results! If you could also test copper, would be cool.

That's the plan, I got one 3m long brocade dac cable here dedicated to router <-> core switch (g8000) uplink.
Not that 10Gbps connection from router is required, but it's just fancier way to do multiple 1Gbps vlan routings at the same time. 1x 10Gbps DAC > 4x 1Gbps cat6s.

@s0lid Did the g8000 already arrive? And does it work with the 1020's? Last question: Is it really consuming 120w? oO

Yay, the G8000 arrived. Works like a charm, haven't really looked into configuring it but quick test worked.
And for those looking into using these with 1020's, the brocade dac cables are APPROVED and they link, gbics are not.

Did you get a G8000 (1GbE) or G8124E (10GbE)? I just picked up 2 of each, but I'm off to VMworld and won't get to touch them until I get back. Good to know the Brocade DAC's work, I'm hoping Cisco passive ones do as well.

Anyone know where to order one of the mini-USB-b to DB9 console cables for these beasts? Also, rack ears and/or the SFP+ 2pt 10GbE modules? May as well go all in :)

G8000 with 2 Dual SFP+ modules.
I made my own adapter USB-RJ45 adapter for this switch so I can use any USB-mini-usb and d9-rj45 cable :)
