I thought 10 inch racks were too small to be useful. A friend changed my mind. So I'm creating ....

Just wondering if there is any interest or if I should drop this one. Battery backup + PSU + POE switch

Form factor

  • 10" rack, 2U, ~245 mm deep
  • Sized for short mini racks (~260 mm deep)

Battery

  • 4S LiFePO4 prismatic cells, 12.8 V nominal, ~320 Wh
  • Cells under compression in the pack
  • Dedicated BMS with protection FETs, current sensing and per-cell temperature monitoring
  • Steel barrier between the pack and the electronics

Power

  • Internal 500 W-class AC/DC supply, 100–240 VAC, IEC inlet, fused and switched
  • 24 V internal bus. Mains and battery feed it through ideal-diode ORing, so there's no transfer gap when mains drops
  • Up to ~450 W continuous on mains; ~300 W continuous / 400 W peak on battery
  • Estimated runtime: ~1 h @ 300 W, ~2.3 h @ 127 W, ~6 h @ 50 W, ~15 h @ 20 W
  • Solar/DC input: 10–60 V, ~250–300 W MPPT

Outputs

  • 5× USB-C PD, up to 100 W each, one converter per port
  • Power goes out over USB-C PD and PoE only (no barrel or Molex outputs)
  • Every power port can be switched on/off and power-cycled remotely, so you can hard-reset a hung SBC, router or AP
  • Firmware power budget with per-port limits and priority load shedding

Networking

  • Managed switch daughterboard
  • 8× 2.5GbE with PoE+ (30 W/port, ~120–180 W total budget)
  • 2× 10GbE SFP+
  • Base unit ships without it (blank plate)

Management

  • Onboard microcontroller
  • Telemetry: battery state and temperatures, mains and solar status, per-port power, PoE, fan speed, fault log
  • CAN / RS-485 expansion port, plus a front USB-C service port
  • Front panel: status/charge LEDs and a power button

Cooling

  • One 80 mm PWM exhaust fan at the rear
  • Passive front intake with a dust filter

Spent the last decade software / hardware hybrid comp sci / EE on Arcade machines and brain computer interfaces (not neuralink)

IMHO provided the current rating is adequate a better option than the Molex KK .093" are MiniFt-Jr 4x1 because they are locking thus preventing accidental unplugging
