considering the fact that you bought a PCIe NVMe drive, that means you'll need to get an external PCIe port. hopefully you have a thunderbolt port because that's how the vast majority of the external PCIe docks connect to the host PC.

usb-c is a form factor, similar as rj45 (which is usually ethernet but sometimes rs232). your usb-c port may or may not be thunderbolt. if it is not thunderbolt, you cannot use a PCIe dock with it. usb2/3 also will not work.

Just for pulling cdi info it will work fine. For speed testing it will top out at 1GB due to usb 10gbps limit.

For practical use of an NVME drive to get the performance TB would be needed though that also tops out at 3.2GB/s which is less than Gen 3 which is 3.5.

What do you want to test? Just gather info or performance? You can gather the info with a cheap USB enclosure. If you want to performance test then a TB enclosure would be needed and those are about $100.
