So hopefully the gen one processor will show up tomorrow. If lucky, I will be able to update this motherboard into working.
I didn’t mention this before, but my first start of the machine resulted in a visible spark from the front edge of the motherboard. I managed to unplug the machine within a second.
The only suspect connection was my homemade SATA cable and without it, there were no further sparks.
While waiting for the cpu, I pulled the cable assembly and tested it.
Nothing is shorted. All connections going to the correct leads.
The only explanation is that the three yellow leads are not 12v each.
So the plan now is to fix the bio and firmware version on the machine and get it starting, then plug in a back plane cable and do some real world measurements
But.... if anyone has some real experience with the power coming off that header, I would love to hear it.
