Picked up my boxes but not gotten as far as unpack all of power one on.
Are the riser options available in the cloudflare/OEM bios out of the box?

For the combo link it looks like SLIMSAS1 and SLIMSAS2 are the slots used for the 4x U.2 in front.

For those interested ...

Rails

Offered 10 USD / Set for 8 Sets, got an Invoice and after contacting the Seller, he adjusted Shipping to approx. 23 USD (to Jetcarrier US).

This one probably calls for Sea Shipping since it's 2kg / Piece so 16kg in total for me ...

List Price is 18 USD / Set (already discounted from 24 USD / Set) so I'd say it's quite good

Only 3 Left. I was pretty sure the Seller had another offer which he took down that had more than 11 Pieces. Might be worth to contact him and ask if you are interested in more ;) .

Riser

I just found this Riser which was added Recently:

TYAN M8036-L16-1F - 75 USD for 5 Pieces (15 USD / Piece) - 7 Sets currently remaining

So 15 USD / Piece plus another I guess ~ 40 EUR for a Package of 2 Sets (10 Risers) to be shipped to Denmark via Jetcarrier, so probably around 20 EUR / Piece overall.

Not a super good Deal compared to the entire Server but considering that Supermicro standard x16 Risers go for about 10-15 USD/EUR it's not too bad either considering these are/might be a bit special. Indeed the PCIe Slot Alignment is different compared to Supermicro PCIe Risers so the Supermicro Risers would likely NOT work in this HYVE Edge Chassis without some Modification.

I just ordered 2 Sets, so I will have 2 extras here in Europe if somebody else is Interested ;) .

The only other "Deal" I found so far on eBay was from China at 30 USD / Piece (DOUBLE !!) of the TYAN M8036-R16-1F one.

EDIT 1: added remaining Quantity for Rails (3 Pieces) and Risers (7 Pieces)
Please let us know if the riser indeed is the correct one. I tried contacting the seller about shipping to The Netherlands, but haven't heard a thing..

They are a bit slow to reply but they already shipped mine ... Edit 1: I do NOT believe they ship Abroad, there was a Note in the Description.

Too bad they didn't seem to want to negotiate. To be honest though, given the lack of Availability, I didn't want to "risk it" so I just bought 10 Pieces (8 for my Servers, 2 Spares). You never know about the STH Effect :p .

If you only want 2 Pieces I might be able to sell you mine. Otherwise if you hurry, you could maybe place an Order (or you pay me & I place the Order), then it would cost a little bit from the US (not too much since I have Jetcarrier "Standby" Activated), then it's one Hop from Denmark to Netherlands (around 20 EUR < 1 kg with GLS).

If somebody else in Germany etc does something similar it's probably going to be a bit cheaper for you.

Jetcarrier for a Single Package in Air Shipping can hurt even for small ones. But if you have 3-4 small Packages it's definitively worth it ;).

Asked about 8 or 16 and they would do 25/ea, not amazing but lower than 30 i suppose.
I'll pass. I'm not even 100% sure I'll need the Rails and the Riser, but it's good to have them, when they are at reasonable Prices.

At least I could install a 2x40gbe or 2x100gbe NIC should I want to later on :).

The LEFT Riser should be sufficient for only one PCIe Adapter. Of course having the Right would be nice too, but soon I'll spend more in Risers than the Server ....

Did you also order the LEFT one I got for 15 USD / Each (plus shipping via Jetcarrier & VAT of course) ?

I opened the thread about this server, flashing tyan firmware causes error 0022 which by the looks of it means cpu is bound to cloudflare/hyve bios or bmc firmware, the cpu is effectively locked to the chassis, changing only bmc firmware causes no boot, changing only bios same thing, theyre loud, the standard setting for fans was 15% then when loaded 100% then 15% i found no way to regulate it ipmi doesnt work with the known fan commands, maybe there are different ipmi commands that work with openbmc, havent tried compiling openbmc for tyan to see if that would work
Were you able to recover or did you permanently brick it ?

Have not gotten around to it, but i saw my 10$/ea offer for the 10rails they had left was accepted.
Why I'm not surprised you are the one that grabs them all :p ?

In all seriousness I had placed 2 or 3 Times already an offer for 10 x 10 USD / Piece for the Rails but it always expired automatically.

Then I offered 8 x 10 USD / Piece and it got accepted within a minute or two.

Extremely weird :D

might be using wrong ram reason why no display output problems is we only have two sticks available at the moment what is the best ram for this motherboard

kinda annoying motherboard not telling us anything

Running to work not much Time ....

Quick & Dirty Workaround:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

dhclient -v
(by default any Error will cause the Script to exit, so if you don't e.g. have zfs installed or if mount -a gives an Error, then the subsequent Lines are NOT executed by default)

Then:
  • Connect Cables (at least one to each "Type" of NIC, plus management of course)
  • Boot Server
  • Look in your DHCP Server Lease Tab for recent Leases (it should show the Hostname e.g. LiveUbuntu1 or whatever you configured)

Let's hope that USB Boot Works out of the Box:).

Alternative is that USB Boot does NOT work and you need a small SATA Drive instead, but you can follow the same Procedure, enable dhclient -v in /etc/rc.local and boot that instead :) . If having Issues, make sure you setup the Drive for both CSM / BIOS Boot as well as UEFI Boot.

This is maybe not what you want to hear, but I don't have other Ideas, other than installing a separate GPU in the PCIe Slot which as it is, it's going to be pretty difficult (especially without Riser) ...

Alternative is to setup PXE / TFTP Boot on your DHCP Server, IMHO every Server and VM tries to do Network Boot by default, if it didn't find another working Boot Device. But that's another Topic for another Day ...

Probably memory config. we've seen the same thing. Something it's as simple as trying a few times (take server off power in between tries). Then, when you get to BIOS, disable memory overclocking.
With overclocking enabled we've seen what you're seeing, but also random missing memory channels. Our 2400 MT DIMM's were shown as 3200 in BIOS, with a few channels missing.
All issues were resolved by disabling memory overclocking.

How did you achieve the first Boot to get to disable Memory Overclocking if trying a few Times doesn't work ?

Clear CMOS ? Installing a single DIMM ? Trying different DIMM Brands / Frequencies ?

Is there a huge Performance Penalty in using these with "only" 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM ?

I was looking mainly into 2666 MHz DDR4 to get the best Performance out of them but Prices and Availability can be tricky ...
