I just purchased and installed a Mikrotik CRS317, a CRS326, and CRS328. Currently, I'm trying to provision my CRS317 as a core switch/router, and I'm attempting to install a Huawei MA5671A SFP ONT into it for FTTH Internet access. My ISP is Bell Fibe, and I pulled the SFP ONT from the Home Hub 3000 they provided.

When I login to the WebFig interface on the CRS317 (or CRS328), and insert an SFP+ transceiver into a port, I can see the various details of the SFP+ transceiver automatically populate in the interface status for the port (i.e. Vendor, Model, Serial #, etc.).

However, this does not occur when I insert the Huawei SFP ONT, nor does it show the port as being active. I'm relatively new to Mikrotik, but when I check the logs, nothing relevant seems to show up.

It seems as though the SFP ONT doesn't physically fit. I slide it in, and I can feel/hear the SFP ONT click into place, but it does not click as well as other transceivers I insert (that do work).

I'm happy to provide more information and perform more diagnostics, but this seems to be my current theory. Any help would be appreciated!

I have Bell Fibe (Toronto) at one of my sites, deployed with a Brocade switch.

  1. Have you done the initial provision on the HH3000? (It asks you to sign in, give your customer details, etc. the first time)
  2. Do you have another switch to try? The Mikrotik should work... try waiting ~5 mins to see if it lights up when you connect the SFP.

Yes did the initial provision with the HomeHub. Works fine.

I have an H3C switch where it can recognize the SFP and gets its info like serial number, but it won’t come up. Logs show that the Rx power is low, and there’s a Tx fault. Putting it into a Chelsio T320 worked and even got PPPoE connected, but it would keep flapping between link up and down.

I’ll try leaving it in a bit longer, but shouldn’t it at least show the transceiver details right away?

Ok, so I was able to do some more digging. It's not a physical fit issue. That sounded silly to me when I wrote it, so nice to see it confirmed.

On the CRS317, it seems to flap between module present or not. On the CRS328, it doesn't flap. Both show the following when I monitor it via the RouterOS console:

Code:
[admin@MikroTik] /interface ethernet> monitor sfp-sfpplus1
                      name: sfp-sfpplus1
                    status: no-link
          auto-negotiation: done

  link-partner-advertising:
        sfp-module-present: yes
               sfp-rx-loss: yes
              sfp-tx-fault: yes
                  sfp-type: (unknown)

RX loss and TX fault was what I was seeing on my H3C switch too, so obviously there's something I'm doing wrong. I'm going to try to update the firmware on these devices and see what that does.

Thanks, that was a pointer in the right direction. I was able to get the SFP online by doing the following:
1) Set SFP port to auto-negotiate:eek:ff, force 1000M
2) Unplug router from AC power
3) Plug in SFP GPON module
4) Plug in router to AC power
5) Repeat a few times until the router recognizes the SFP module

Now, I can't seem to get the PPPoE connection to stay up. I created a VLAN with ID of 35, and the PPPoE connection just keeps connecting and disconnecting. I'm unclear as to what I'm doing incorrectly now, but given that many others have accomplished this with much less effort, there's something simple I'm missing.

Try forcing the link settings, as per MikroTik wiki.

Were you able to solve your PPPoE problems?
I am currently having similar issues with CCR-1009 and the only thing I have not tried is actually to fully power-cycle the router. Going to try that later today. Just want to see if you were finally able to get Bell FTTH working?

Yes, my Bell FTTH works great, without the Bell-provided HomeHub.

If you have it on a switch, can you try something else implementing the PPPoE instead?

I have an Alcatel G-010S-P with ICX6450 works great. I must force the slot speed of bell ont at 1G.

How many times did you have to repeat it for the SFP GPON to be recognized? I've power-cycled mine 5 or 6 times and still no dice. I get the same thing you were getting before: "sfp-type: (unknown)"
