As some saw, we are reviewing the higher-end Microserver Gen10. I was checking pricing and saw the base dual core 8GB and 1TB model on the HPE page for $175. Small Business Marketplace

If you wanted a raspberry Pi cluster alternative these plus 10GbE NICs would make an interesting low cost storage Cluster nodes. 5 nodes for $875 and you could start with 5x 1TB that it comes with.

So with CA tax and shipping 2 are under $400 total.

This can't be right? Antonline is a HP dropshipper HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Ultra Micro Tower Server - 1 x AMD Opteron X3216 190017279978 | eBay

$376.36 w/ free ship but no hard drive! That's a second system and two 1TB hard drives means that hpe site price is half of what it should be.

The CPU looks about like an Atom C3538 based on passmark PassMark - CPU Comparison AMD Opteron X3216 APU vs Intel Atom C3538

So for $175 you get about the same CPU performance as that new Synology DS1618+ 6-bay. You get a 4-bay trayless bay system which is nice + the internal SSD spot if you want it. It also has a meager GPU and 8GB of ram while that DS1618+ only has 4GB standard.

Synology has 1x PCIE x8. HP has PCIE x4 and x8

Synology diskless. HPE comes with a 1TB hard drive.

Synology comes with software. HPE is roll your own.

Neither has IPMI

Synology is $750. Microserver is $175.

Very unlikely.. we get screwed over bigtime in the EU :/ its likely closer to $400 USD here..
To be fair we used to get some magnificent cashback deals on Microservers which never seemed to travel across the pond.

Was never aware of that. In the years i’v been scouting gear for my homelab, I have almost never been able to find things cheaper in the EU vs. US

Check out was successful. $28 shipping and $16 tax. I'd been eyeing these anyway, got tired of the hyper-converged setup.

Well @MiniKnight I think you are right. @Marsh here is my invoice from last night:

Subtotal $349.98

Shipping $16.00

Payment Costs $0.00

Sales Tax $32.93

Total $398.91

About $200 per. Actually, even as a cluster witness 3rd node not bad. I think I am going to do home-Ceph + Kubernetes with them though

Its very uncommon I must admit. There were also some great deals on Poweredge T30's as I remember.... hence having 4 Microservers and a T30!

I got 1, now I'm wanting to get a few more if you can add a 5th drive for booting. That makes four storage bays. Good for FreeNAS.
