The listing is for ProDesk 400 G4 but the bios picture shows up-tier ProDesk 600 G4 DM (TAA)

i5-8500T 6core 6 thread cpu.

Seller accepted my offer of 4 for $65 each. with combined shipping came to $298 total, tax included. Hard to find a turnkey mini pc for that much or less nowadays

This unit also comes with a VGA port (for us that still like or need legacy output) in addition to the two DP output. If you don't want that vga out, you can actually SWAP it for numerous other HP IO FLEX modules like usb-c, DP, RS232, LAN, etc for cheap ;)

I figure it would make nice nodes.

i figure there are several things this thing can be used for. esp the fact that you can swap out that vga port for so many other things!
it's a pretty solid built metal chassic compared to the flimsy plastics in most mini pc nowadays

i am sure a lot of others have a lot of ideas what to do with this ;)

It also has two M2 2280 slots and space for 2.5in SATA and dual slot sodimm.

Here's a pic of what the inside looks like:

Absolutely perfect for a little homelab test cluster, or even for running HA on your more critical stuff at home! Swap the 2230 to a 2.5GbE NIC and print a adapter to put the RJ45 port in the IO Flex spot. Too bad these will be quite expensive if I have them shipped over the pond..

or just get this HP usb-c module and then get a 2.5Gb lan to usb-c adapter and save the trouble of cutting ;)

From the listing:
"Compatible with H P ProDesk 400 600 G4 G5 and EliteDesk 705 G4, 800 G4, 800 G5 DM SFF Desktop series, NOT Fit for 400 600 800 G3 SFF series."

Oh man thats cool to know about the compatibility!!

Plus you can buy dGPU for these models (the RX 570 and I think even an nvidia 1070 come to mind)

Not good idea. These are not usb4 ports. The external connection to GPU will be very horrible. The i5-8500t cpu is also a big bottleneck anyway. probably only good for playing SC2 at lower res and setting and older games.

you are correct on all that… BUT!! I’m talking internal, official, dGPU add on!! For example:

My guy… it literally is made for these models down to the proprietary MXM GPU connector lol

1. The Missing Proprietary Connector
HP engineered this exact RX 560 module (L21467-001) with a specialized, flat proprietary ribbon interface. It is designed to plug directly into a dedicated, internal expansion socket that is only populated on the premium EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini and the EliteDesk 705 G4 Mini. The ProDesk 600 G4 motherboard layout is completely missing that exact hardware socket. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Not for 600 G4 ;) .. There is space but no correct interface

received mine today. not bad for 67.00. As advertised. 2.5 drive tray and adapter cable is in the system as well. As its HPE, pretty much all torx to get in and strip down.

waiting on my 2.5Gbe mini flex io. Yes, could have purchased some 2230's off ali and gone that route. call me lazy.

I now need to locate some 32GB 2666 sodimms

I bought 4. 1 was totally fine. 1 was missing the plastic cover. 1 had a broken plastic cover. I touched the other one and it fell off.
