Good deal if you need that much 10Gbe on the cheap. It is an old model. Likely loud, hot and power hungry.

What's a good relatively current model 48p 10GbE SFP+ switch to go for on eBay?

Damn 178 pages lol. The switches shown in the pinned post have pretty similar latency to this HP, which is also what I'm using. I'm looking to upgrade to something better, in the 800ns range if possible and lower power draw. I found the Brocade VDX 6740 to be pretty good spec-wise, but I have no experience with that switch at all.

I was a sucker and lampooned my lab with 10GbT so I went with Arista and a lovely rack mounted heater.

https://support.mellanox.com/s/productdetails/a2v50000000XoRIAA0/sx6018 - is what I am using - specs says 200ns latency port to port.
It can run both 10/40/56Gbps ethernet with the correct transceivers/cables - and with port splitters to 10Gbps you will have 16x4 ports - although I cannot remember if port splitting works on all ports or not.

I have exchanged the fans for noctua's - fairly easy mod - it has a hotswap fan cage/hot swap psu with fan in it, so it makes it even easier to change. since you dont have to open up the switch itself, just the fan cage and psu.

With around 1/3 of the ports connected in a home lab I am seeing power consumption of around 30w, which is okay I think.

What noise level are we at with after such fan mod?
I haven't measured the noise levels, but its low - the fans inside the PSU I have also exchanged for noctua's.

Its probably one the most silent items i have in my "rack" - with 120mm fans making more noise just because of the air movement.

I wouldnt want to sleep next to it - but I would have no issues having it under my desk if that was needed.

Fans are running almost full speed, but the noise level are much better than the original fans - it is hard to quantify - my guess is that its making as much noise as a laptop where fans are running because its hot - noticeable, not not irritating.
