How to reformat HDD & SSD to 512B Sector Size

sg_format --format --size=512 pdx
Where x is the drive #. The only time I've had the above fail it turned out to be a bad HD. The format would start then stall out at 4.5%.

EDIT : Also make sure running as administrator.

Late to the party here but my initial schoolboy error was not opening my cmd prompt with administrator rights…

Also I could not get it to work on a HP Z840 running Windows 11, but another identical PC running Windows 10 does work so gave up trying to track down the issue since I know it works and just extends the time to get through 24 drives to 4 a day…

I tried with windows 10 seem problem sp=0

I'd say next step is to look into flashing the firmware to another flavor. There's a thread on her somewhere dedicated to this topic. It could also be a vendor locked drive in which case we're pissing in the wind.

I have good news I have Seagate netapp working and format from 520 to 512.
But another model ibm Seagate can’t change scoter from 528 to 512 can help me for this

Show us one situation where a NOT working sg_format command-line was made to WORK, merely by adding the --six option.
