Hi,

I wonder if those or similar chassis are available for consumer as empty chassis (without drives included) somewhere in europe (ideally austria/germany).

Checking ebay every day if something pops up is rather annoying (and how long can that take in EU), when I search for 4U60 I usually only find the G1 and mostly also for rather high prices (if there are any available at all).

Are there any alternatives? I also don't really need to have mainboard etc. included in that chassis, would be even better to have the actual server in a separate chassis connected via SAS.
(I think napp-it with ZFS requires HBA/controllers on IT-mode and recommends LSI?; 48+ disks in a 4U case would be nice)

/Edit: Just read on this thread https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/wtb-60-bay-jbod.23958/page-2 that you can only use WD/HGST enterprise drives in those ... is the same limitation present in G1? I don't want such a limitation on my chassis - are there alternatives?

as you can read in that another topic, i can use seagate sata600 hdd without any problem. i still didn't check the firmware version of my hgst gen1 unit.

tomorrow i will check it

check some sites
xcase.co.uk
servercase.co.uk
serverfactory.co.uk

serverfactory is selling gen2 hgst units. ask them about it at website/chat

The G1 does not include a board and nowadays usually is available 'plundered' (ie without drives from a promo a few years back) - o/c unless you buy new from a vendor

For Ebay, why not add a search with email notification?

Found another interesting case, XJ3000-4603S from AIC. Even has LSI controllers on board which should work perfectly with napp-it.
(via servercase.co.uk)

But still, it's >3k pounds for just the chassis and expanders, for that money I could stick several 24 jbod chassis from e.g. Inter-Tech into my Rack.

Even then, I can rarely find any sources in EU for a case like this, seems like those are either non-existent here overall or only posted on shops/websites that you can't reliably find using google (the usual price comparison site here in AT doesn't list such chassis at all).

I don't actually need any discs, but it should be able to fit any disc in (most known chassis like SuperMicro, HGST/WD often specify "at least 25% certified/enterprise from us" or the like which I am not really interested in).

Just an important note-these aren't cases, they are JBOD boxes, IE designed to get SAS cable(s) plugged in. Could run one using an external sas HBA and a 1u box..
