I don't think I actually save money. It's like when my ex used to tell me she saved $$$$ at Costco.

I compared my pre-here what I would've spent on SSD and rackmount servers (7k) to what I did spend (4.5k) and that's a really nice fat of change to haul. And you peeps are fun too!

I feel like my mother at a clothing sale.

I didn't need new stuff, I didn't have the cash to burn, but I bought it anyway because it was 35%-50% off... Which is still far more than I should've spent.

Thank goodness I only buy stuff when I need it. Like that 8-blade 3U, or all those SSDs! I can't imagine how poor I would be if I were one of those people who bought stuff just because they wanted it!

Unless it's broken or not woking well you probably didn't have to buy it.

but the sales.... THEY'RE TOO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I'd paid full price I never would've bought anything. Now I'm going to have a couple of fairly slick systems which I've been planning for for years but never had the cash to build.

I've been good so far :) currently up $60 between buying new gear and selling old stock. I'd say saved about $200 with all the help from this site

From 2 severs and 15 SSD for them to 13servers and 100+ SSD in 3 months, ya I expanded a bit :) Savings in the thousands... other forums have saved me much more though, this one makes me spend (&sell) too often ;)

I've been buying all of the great products advertised on spam posts. I am now likable and buff. Saving money maybe not.

I already talked to him about it, and he said to stop spending. Oh, I forgot, I didn't say that to my psychologist, but my accountant.

CBD computer builder disease.
Symptoms include: general unease, frustration with current hardware's performance, constant comparisons with just launched products, sleepless nights browsing ebay and deals threads.

Prognosis incurable and highly infectious.
Symptoms may be temporarily abated by buying new hardware or modifying existing.

Reminds me of similar issue with camera gear, NAS, Nikon acquisition syndrome

Well, let's see. This week from eBay I bought:
10x Mellanox ConnectX-2 cards (Normally $909 each, I paid $20 each.)
20x Mellanox LinkX 2m passive copper QSFP VPI cables (Normally $93 each, I paid $18 each.)
1x Mellanox MIS5024Q-1BRR-G InfiniScale IV 36-Port switch (Normally $10,250, I paid $300.)
5x MIS000085 Rack Install Kits (Normally $129 each, I paid $24 each.)

Total if bought new: $9090+$1860+$10,250+$645 = $21,845
Total I paid: $981.08
Total "saved": $20,863.92

I intend to sell four of the five rack kits, but even before that happens I think I did pretty well. 'Course, then there's the OTHER stuff I bought... The 40mm replacement fans for the switch, the new ethernet cables because I wanted my old switch mounted on the front of the rack instead of the back, the rack itself, the 8-node MicroCloud, the SSD conversion trays, the SSDs themselves...

I'm too scared to add up things for the past week , let alone the past 4 months of building :D LOL!!

I think my best deal was Fusion IO for 150 bucks, I forget if that was the deal here, or if someone posted the 250$ deal for them... either way for performance they're seemingly great so far :) Real world usage will tell the tale for SLOG and mYsQL!
