Hi,

The Mellanox ConnectX-5 EN has the "Host Chaining for Storage Backend", and I wonder if this is compatible with Storage Spaces Direct (S2D). What if a server fails, will the chain be broken? Likewise is a NIC fails?

It's like a fully-redundant loop-topology switch stack, I guess? If a host/NIC/link fails then traffic essentially "reverses" direction and goes the other way to get the hosts on the other side of the failure.

Technically, this could be MORE redundant and have less cost than using a regular switch.

Neat.
