Asus wireless routers fail to play nice with VLANS. Problematic.

In other news, the v200 firmware series has obfuscated passwords entirely in the firmware. As a curiosity, I tried to figure it out. Hashcat burned a few days of electricity failing, too. No wordlists helped and any password is not alphanumerics up to 8 characters and not alphanumerics and symbols up to 7 characters. Or possibly there is extra obfuscation going on not readily obvious. Ah well.
I've been following along on the Asuswrt-Merlin subforum at snbforums.com for his latest version, and while it's Asus' way of doing things, which is to say not standard, people seem to be having good luck with the vLAN implementation currently in play once they get their heads wrapped around the hoops that need jumping through.

Does Hashcat include chinese/mandarin/cantonese characters in its search? that may be the extra obfuscation...

They kindly sent me upgrade firmware that I was able to recover (and upgrade!) the unit with.
This is for Horaco HC-SWTGW218AS.
This is ONLY for units with 200.x firmware.
This is specifically noted as NOT for units with 2.x firmware.

I will also note that the uboot password is not 'Switch321' on my unit.
Hi! I used this firmware to unbrick my xikestor sks3200-8xe1 swith. But now is requests uboot password. So please can you tell me what is uboot password on your unit ?

Went through some files and updated the repo with what I hope is the correct firmware versions. All versions should be covered by the various tools and such.

The major changes to the firmware where to support new Realtek ASIC but they also attempted to prevent the 1cent upgrade from unmanaged to managed. Not sure how long I am willing to play cat and mouse but expect a new firmware to again cause mistakes in fw upgrades albeit they all but stopped supplying downloadable upgrades.

Do you realize that lagg (or even static for that matter) does not sum the 2 speeds, right? you will never get 5gb of single file transfer for example.
Samba can use Multipath-TCP since SMB3, which was released years ago. Practically speaking, single file transfers can use the full aggregated throughput from LAGG with any recent Samba server (for Windows, it was introduced in Windows 8).

I tried using another power supply, and the same thing happened. Unfortunately, there's no link detected on any of the ports when plugging in via RJ45 or the SFP+.
Same here. Today my second Horaco ZX-SWTGW218AS switch died on the same way the first did. I couldn't contact some devices., rebooted the switch and it never came back online. Power led is green and system led is blinking. Just like the first one about 6 months ago. Tried several things like reset button, other power supply, etc, but it will not start again. Contacted the seller, but don't expect much of it.

It could be worth inspecting the board in the failing Horaco. Loose connectors seems possible (if there even are any).

I'd lean towards failed capacitors, so really eyeball any electrolytics for bulging tops, etc. We have these things on 24/7 and it doesn't take long to age out super cheapo capacitors. In theory even good cheap ones should last say 2 years 24/7 but running hot, with cheap power bricks would lower that. And these manufacturers may be getting even cheaper components.

try to connect over serial by opening the device and if you have a ch341 you can try to flash it again, i shared a dump of mine

@PnoT same to you

Hi all!
First post here :)
I've just received Horaco HC-SWTGW218AS managed switch with Firmware Version: V200.1.10.
Should I update it to the shared here V200.1.16?
I made short test between 2 Windows 10 machines with shared folders and it seems that the connection is somehow capped at 1.5Gbps...
Do I have to change any settings in the switch? Or in the Windows?
First managed switch and no LAN networks experience...
The LAN cards are FENVI 2.5G PCI-E To RJ45 Network Card RTL8125B Chip.
Jumbo frame is set to the maximum.
Flow control is OFF.

An RTL8125B-based PCIe network adapter supports speeds of 2.5Gbps, 1Gbps, and 100Mbps, but it does not achieve these speeds on a PCIe 2.0 x1 lane, which is limited to 2.5 GT/s (2.5 Gbps) in theory. The RTL8125B chip itself supports 2.5 Gbps, but the bottleneck is the PCIe slot's capabilities. A PCIe 2.0 x1 slot would be the limiting factor for the network card's performance, with a theoretical maximum bandwidth of 2.5 GT/s per lane, making it suitable for 1Gbps speeds, not 2.5Gbps. To achieve the full 2.5Gbps, the RTL8125B card needs a PCIe 2.0 x2 or higher slot, or a PCIe 3.0 x1 or higher slot.
On the second machine I've installed the LAN cards on PCIe 2.0 ports.
After work I'll move one of the cards to a PCIe 3.0 port and will report the results.

I've often wondered about the real life pcie throughput. There's not a lot online that addresses that. My google-fu today turned up 2 things from an old-ish nvidea/melinox page. PCIe V1 & V2 had a 20% packet overhead, later is only 1.5%. And they also throw in a fudge factor of -1Gb/s. So your PCIe2x1 was actually doing better than they expected.

The problem was in the old built-in Windows drivers!
I've moved the one LAN card from PCIe 2.0 port to PCIe 3.0 port and the other remain in PCIe 2.0 port.
With the old drivers both performed around 1.5 Gbps.
After the installation of the latest drivers from the Realtek's website, both LAN cards performed around 2.37 Gbps!
Measured with iperf3 application.
No cables were changed, everything else is the same, only the drivers were updated!

Does anyone have a dump of a SWTGW215AS? I have multiple units that have all failed over the duration of a year now, I'd like to try reflash them / swap out the flash mem and see if that resolves the issue. I saw up-n-atom has some dumps but not for that model.
