I would ask, the 12Gb/s for the 8 TB SAS does make sens in way i don't see ?
This interface will offer a gain from a 6Gb/s for such hd ?

Good point. It's unlikely a spinner can push 12 Gb/s. lI'm on mobile. l think.it's faster than SATA though. l just following the description in the ad. Cheers.

EDIT: I think the SAS is faster than SATA though.

I take it back, according to HGST it appears the SATA and SAS has same speed.

Where are you getting your prices? The lowest I see for the 6TB SATA is $400.
Appears 6 TB drive at Newegg is now out of stock. (Probably the STH effect)

I cannot check $312 6 TB drive as website hangs at the moment.

All other prices seem current.

Do you see different prices from these links?
Cheers.

NB. I been looking around for other Helium deals.
Taking a close look at HGST specifications, the 'HUH' models are Helium and 'HUS' are standard drives.
Looks like some sellers, as the 6 TB $248 quoted above are describing their drives as Heliums 'HUH' where product number quotes are standard drives 'HUS'.
My apologies for creating any confusion.

Here are some more 6TB HUS726060ALA640 at 265$ with free ship and OBO enabled. I grabbed one at a slight discount via OBO but either way (obo or BIN ) its a great deal for a great HITACHI ent. 6tb drive.... As to if its Helium, the HGST data sheet on this exact model nubmer syas its He 6 (so helium) , personally im not fully sold on the Helium advantage / pros just yet (based upon the results from Back Blaze re: helium HGST drives having a higher AFR vs normal Hitachi Enterprise drives ( i *think* it was just 8tb He Drives tho).

Plus the Seller is very helpful and easy to deal with and ships quick. I dont have the exact SMART numbers from the 6tb drives i bought from him, but they were all nominal (im considering getting a few more from same seller)

HGST HUS726060ALA640 Data Sheet PDF:

Again, im torn on if i should make a new post (like i did with the HGST 400gb SSDs at 125$ earlier today vs reply ing to this thread - bc i know there are still users who want them but they sold out)..

Thanks @james23 for your feedback.

The following article describes He6 as the first model produced by HGST and has 64 MB buffer, the He8 relates to the second generation of drives (along with the Ultrastar C15K600) that have 'media cache architecture' with power loss protection to He8 128MB DRAM cache and improves random write performance. HGST Ultrastar He8 8TB Enterprise HDD Review - Introduction

The data sheet provided for He6 description for the 3rd letter in model number 'S' being for 'standard' whereas the data sheet for the He8 drives describes the 3rd letter of model number as 'H' for helium and 'S' for 'standard', both articles talk about helium filled drives. I'm now confused.

Tomsitpro article on He8 drives also mentions XOR process for drive rebuilds, where the good data of failing drive is copied to the new drive and missing data is constructed from the remaining healthy drives, thus reducing rebuild times.

The article also mentions ' seven thinner and lighter glass-substrate platters (7Stac design)' are used; and 'The fastener arrangement on the bottom of the He8 doesn't follow the standard alignment used in the past, and users need to ensure drive sled compatibility. Seagate is using a similar mechanism on its high-capacity offerings.'
