As far as I know (I could be wrong..) SAS3 decoupled the backplane-->HBA speed from the backplane-->disk(s) speed. Whether you have SAS2 disks or SAS3 disks on a SAS3 backplane, as long as you have a SAS3 HBA, your backplane<-->HBA will operate at 12gbps x number of ports.

Why not? If one of your raid controllers fails or cables you're still up!

I ordered and received 6 of these drives. All were under under 200 hours and a couple were under 100. Ran badblocks on them and they all passed so looks like a good seller/batch!
