We've seen these 3TB drives around $35-$40 before and it was a good deal. Now, available for $25 with quantity:

SUN Oracle 3TB SAS 7.2K 3.5" HDD 7010036 7021037 HUS723030ALS640 NOT FOR PC | eBay

If you don't need the Sun HDD brackets, you can probably sell them off in a bulk deal and recoup some cost, making it < $25 each.

They are 6 yrs old, but if you know HGST, these are very reliable hard drives. I would test them once you get them though.

nice find! can anyone comment on these HUSs paticular firmware? the image/sticker shows FW: A142 (which i think is an OEM FW).
(looking up some other HUS listings, and some HUSs i have here that do NOT appear to be OEM drives, the FWs are like FW:580 or FW:BWO

While usually i have not had issues with OEM FW on HUAs HUSs , i did have an issue with about 10x IBM HUAs a few years ago when used with adaptec 5 / 6/ 8 series raid cards (real HW raid not IT mode), due to their firmware.

I bought 4x and will update this with FW issue when i have them in hand, however i doubt listing will still be live at that point

Which seller did you buy yours from ? I bought it from digitalmind2000 and he stated on his page that it has oracle firmware..... did you also get it from him?

yes i did ordered it from digitalmind2000.... Like i said, i got 7 unused 4TB HGST drives right now so it would last me for 2 more yrs.... i am not in a hurry to get some more hdd, but if it's a good deal, wouldn't mind a few....

guess seeing how popular it is, he jacked up the price.... still no one here can confirm if these will work outside of oracle sun hardware yet?

If worst comes to worst, you could consider buying a cheap SUN server for those drives. :)
