I just bought two different orders of 5, I guess we will see if one gets cancelled. I'm going to fill a whole SA120 with these and only use it to backup all my other stuff with 2 spares.

That didn't take long - Cancelled!

For home use, providing you are not maxing out your storage, yea sure, a few of these would probably be fine to get started with, give some space to play with new stuff and store some media on etc. They are not bad for the money. I wouldn't be wanting to fill my bays with anything less than 3TB though and even then, that's with a view to moving to 5-6TB disks in the reasonably near future as prices fall to affordable levels :)

I was able to ship 5 of them to my neighbor and the order went through. Just in time too because they are sold out!

I hear you on the 2TB size. I look at it this way, I bought a SA120 for $150 brand new and can daisy chain it to my existing SA120. So being able to pick up a really nice HDD for $40 and fill a $150 enclosure seems reasonable. Now if I had a super high end enclosure or server, right, no wasting the space.

Normally I would also worry about the power draw per GB as well since 12 spinning 2Tb drives cost a lot more in energy than 3 8TB drives! But since I only plan to turn this thing on twice a month for less than a day, it shouldn't be too big of a deal!

What would be much more efficient for me would be to fill my R720 2.5" bays with 16 hard drives and not have to power an enclosure at all. Too bad 2.5" high capacity drives are stupid expensive compared to 3.5". Anybody have a 3.5" version of the R720 they want to trade for my 2.5" R720?

It was recently pointed out to me here that 4tb 2.5" exist - ST4000LM016's. 5400rpm, 15mm, $139 on Amazon. Surprised me. Might be a way to get you some density as that's not far off what 4tb LFF drives are...
