Good afternoon, everyone! I've searched through the forums but haven't been able to find an issue like mine.

I recently purchased a couple HP 649281-B21 infiniband/ethernet cards off ebay, along with both a generic (Blackbox) 10m AOC and a Mellanox branded 3m passive DAC. The NICs were advertised as already having been flashed to MCX354A-FCBT firmware.

My end goal is just to have a silly fast link for NFS/CIFS between my client desktop (Win10 pro) and my NAS (TrueNAS scale 23.10) that sits across the room.

My issue is thus : After installing the NICs in both the client and server machine, they're visible to both of the OSes, but no matter what I do, mellanox firmware tools refuse to acknowledge their presence. When forced with --with_unknown, MST in linux will pick the card up and display status, but mlxconfig will refuse to do anything with the card.

In the client machine, no matter what I do, the nic will refuse to see any network cable being plugged in, even when looped between ports 1 and 2 on the NIC. I've tried both the WHQL/Microsoft driver and the latest driver available from the Mellanox/Nvidia site.

I've been hellbent on figuring this out myself, but finally broke down and decided to ask some folks that know what they're on about for help. At this point I'm so brainfried I don't even know where to start so if you want to help and need any additional info I'd be more than happy to reboot into linux
