Thank you brother

I have managed to get everything working for:
  • NIC: Mellanox ConnectX-5 MCX516A-CDAT (MT_0000000013)
  • Old FW: 16.24.1000 (!)
  • New FW: 16.35.4030-LTS
Commentary:
  1. The firmware available is fw-ConnectX5-rel-16_35_4030-MCX516A-CDA_Ax_Bx-UEFI-14.29.15-FlexBoot-3.6.902
  2. The search page is at Firmware for ConnectX®-5 EN
  3. I had I/O ROM disabled and forced xGMI links to 4.
  4. Taping off the SMBus pins would not allow the card to work. The firmware had to be updated.
  5. The flashing can be achieved via an eGPU chassis from Windows.
  6. I did not downgrade BMC nor BIOS.
Try this

cmos clear and pull the battery, put it back after 30 min, of course have the psi unplugged the whole time

THEN

flash the BMC to version 08, the Sep 5 BMC sucks on bios update

Reflash the latest bios

Then

make sure the pcie channels are set up specific to your devices, as troubleshooting step, don’t use auto

Use AUTO in the numa setup

depending on where the cards are plugged in, will determine which cpu gets the connection

set the xGMI min to 16x

So next on the to do list is to replace the other cheesy lightweight short small heatsinks for the Mosfet / voltage regulators etc that came with the board. This time I was able to find them halfway across the globe and specific to this board:

Dude, where did you get these? I need them for my setup!

edit
Oh, I think I found them on aliexpress.

Thank you, also did I read correctly that you made your own heatsink for the LAN adapter also? How? I want one lol

Looks like you made your own CPU heatsinks, too.

...who are you?

Just an average guy

I did document the heatsink and motherboard process a little more in detail here for this motherboard:

I documented the multi GPU a little better here:

I hope the explanations to the heatsinks and optimizations are of assistance to you, please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

respectfully

Hi everyone,

I'm at my breaking point with a maddening issue and urgently need your help...

I'm using an MZ73-LM1 paired with two 9005 gen EPYC, and I'm facing the exact same frustrating problem.

With both CPUs installed, there is no initial boot—no power-up, no response whatsoever. The BMC lights up, but there are no fans spinning, no action at all. Even using the BMC power-up function yields no response.
But the problem is that I've also tried booting with a single CPU (CPU 0) and a single ram stick, however, nothing changes—the system remains completely unresponsive. I'm completely stumped and desperate to resolve this.

Below are the detailed specifications for your review. Any insight, suggestions, or troubleshooting tips you could offer would mean the world to me. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

M/B: new gigabyte MZ73-LM1 motherboards
CPU: Epyc 9115 x 2
RAM: DDR5 PC5-44800 ECC/REG [64GB] (5600) x 24
PCIe: None (tried with one gpu but disconnected)
PSU: 1300w

1. Login to the BMC/IPMI and see if anything in the logs stands out.

1b. If no BMC powers up when power is on the board, (should be leds on the board indicating its running) could be a bad PSU or board.

2. Make sure you are mounting the CPU correctly. It takes specific torque specs to mount the heatsink on it.

3. RAM might be bad or incompatible.

4. It's been said by a few people that Turin CPUs need all RAM slots populated. I'm running Genoa and don't have that issue.

piggy back on your comments,

with only 1 cpu and 2 dimms of ram installed:

login to bmc, upgrade the bmc to Aug 15th release firmware

after that process and successfully returning to the BMC

update the board to latest bios,

after that process, select reset/reboot/power on from BMC

wait up to 10 minutes and use a plugged in to onboard video, get to bios, shutdown

Install the other ram and cpu

Then resume normal life

Hey everyone,

First off, thanks for your help! I didn't even know that I can access the BMC server without booting up the system, which was a big help. However, I’m running into another issue where the firmware update isn’t actually updating my firmware version.

I successfully accessed the BMC and uploaded the firmware image downloaded from the official website. After waiting for the update process to complete (about an hour), the system came back up, but the firmware version remains unchanged at 13.06.05 (Build date: May 24, 2024).

I have now repeated this process three times, but nothing changes. It takes about an hour for the server to show up again each time, which is getting pretty frustrating.

Currently, I have only one CPU and one memory stick installed. Should I try installing two RAM sticks? Is there a specific reason why two would be needed?

Also, Skillz mentioned that I might need to fill all memory slots—is that actually required for the firmware update to work? If so, is there a specific amount of RAM that I need to install for this?

I’ve already checked my CMOS jumper settings just in case, but it’s set to default (not enabled).
Any ideas on what might be causing the update to fail? Once again, I’d really appreciate any insights!

you use the ima_enc file.
an hour is much too long. you have a problem.

Not sure what happened to the post, but the BMC won't update the info until a successful boot.

Yes.. this is what I see. As soon as I clicked on the button, bmc disconnects, and it takes about an hour to the page show up again.

you have to accept a popup after clicking this, then upload. after that you see another screen and you are asked to proceed.
maybe your browser doesn't support the BMC HTML5 page. disable all browser blocking, allow popups, merchandises etc.
