I am trying to build a custom workstation for mostly hardware (ASIC/FPGA) design and deployment testing. My requirements are therefore min. 256GB RAM, at least 24 cores (as fast as possible because certain parts of the flow tend to favor single thread performance), ability to have two full speed x16 PCIe accelerator cards (FPGAs) and a third for GPU (though the GPU needs to be very low performance, just offer the capability to have two screens attached to see simulations), at least two M.2 NVMes and support for a handful of large SATA HDDs. Price is very much a concern especially because it is mandatory not to use second hand components - everything has to be purchased new (this is a restriction from my employer) and I have to generally avoid ebay and such unless it is a proper shop that provide invoices, support etc.
I thought I could get away with a Threadripper for this, but I stumbled upon a lot of issues.... I cannot find a single TRX50 motherboard with 8 memory slots for Threadripper 7000 (not pro to keep costs down). The only one I found is this one from Gigabyte: TRX50 AI TOP Key Features | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global . However it is not clear whether it will work with 8 memory dimms for normal threadripper (not pro).
Has anyone any experience with this particular mobo or has anyone found any other suitable mobo with 8 memory slots? Getting 256GB and (in the future) above that value with 4 memory slots increases the cost dramatically.... also having to resolve to memory that is not consumer type is adding quite a bit.
If there is nothing I can do, then maybe a motherboard for 1S EPYC (9004/9005) could do the job? I have only found H13SSL-Nt from Supermicro to fit the bill, but I have a real hard time to find it online and make sure that it is rev.2 and get a price, without getting into the rabbit whole of asking resellers for a quote and waiting for answers to come back while they try to make it really hard to sell you the board without all the rest stuff they want you to buy.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am located in the EU, so also if you know any reseller (that has pricing online) for such components is also worthy.
