Hello All
Now that HP has discontinued their memory configurator software i'm a having trouble populating a DL380 G7. I've got the following RDIMMs:
(8) 2Rx4 16GB 1600MHz modules
(4) 4Rx4 16GB8001066MHz modules
(5) 2Rx? 16GB 1333MHz modules
and a large collection of 2Rank 8GB modules.
The rules seem to be no more than 8 ranks per channel
Highest rank furthest from the processor (don't know what this means), but it appears to be the first (white) slot per channel on a physical layout basis.
If three slots are populated in a channel, everything resorts to 800MHz
If any quad rank module is used, limit of 2 modules per channel on all channels - think this only applies to one processor if no quad rank on the other processor.
In theory I should be able to spread the four rank modules across four channels and fill the rest with a pair of 2 rank modules to stay under that cap. All the modules are DDR3-800 or higher so that should work, but in any of the configurations i've tried so far I get screaming error warnings saying DIMM not supported or else Unsupported configuration, 180GB available/256GB Installed. It's set to advanced ECC mode. I'm really just trying to max out a box for ARC on Truenas so max memory speed is less important than quantity for this exercise. I think i'm falling foul of the last rule on a combination of technicalities.
Can anyone help with a way to install these modules to max this thing out with what i've got please? best I can do so far is 232GB, 9x16 on one proc and 3x16 + 6*8 on the other proc, and throwing the 4R 16GB units away. The maths says i should be getting 8GB more than the machine is telling me.
Thanks muchly, b
