LSI SAS 9211-8i or Areca ARC-1320-8i or?

I want:
- Fast boot times of the Windows server (there will be no boot from the card!) as the server will be rebooted several times a day. Will there be a boot delay? How much?
- 3 TB support

Any comments ideas are welcome!

Any time you use an add-in RAID controller it needs to initialize. Think of them as mini-PC's on a PCIe board. Then again, it is usually well under 1 min. 3TB support is generally good on the 6.0gbps controllers.

I would personally go for the LSI, but there are others that may prefer the Areca. I really like Areca controllers, but without the out-of-band management, the ARC-1320 does not have that feature.

Why is the server being rebooted? Most of us go for high-uptime :)

The 9260 is much more expensive :) I was trying to keep it between those two.

Thnx for your replies!
We are using the server in a test/training environment.
Ok, so if I understand correctly all HBA or Raid controllers need their boottime (now we have a Adpatec 5805, taking about 1 minute)?!

I thought maybe a HBA without RAID would not need to boot, but would use a pass-through technique?

IBM M1015 flashed to LSI 9240-8i firmware. ~$75 on ebay. Best deal for a SAS/SATA-III HBA available.
