Hi all,

I have an Intel S2600CP system board and looking to upgrade my RAM from 32GB to 64GB. The problem is my current RAM has 2 stickers on it (pictures below). I understand Crucial is owned by Micron, but am I relegated to only this brand of memory? I've been shopping for cheaper 8GB sticks, but I'm not sure I can buy other brands like Samsung or Hynix. The manual doesn't help much either. Here are 2 pictures of 1 stick of RAM currently in my server.

It seems my board is very picky. Any help is appreciated!

thank you!

I've not experienced any issues mixing other brands, speeds & Ranks (1R, 2R, 4R). I did have some issue with mixing PC3 (1.5v) & PC3L (1.35v) Technically they are supposed to work fine also and PC3L would run at 1.5V higher voltage.

I think the sweet spot is 16GB sticks these days. Just do a quick search on ebay <$30 OBO
16gb (ddr3L,pc3L) (12800R,1600) -(4gb,2gb) -kingston

You can't mix ECC / non-ECC
You can't mix LRDIMM & RDIMM
I'd personally stay away from Kingston

Thank you @nthu9280

So 12800R means registered but it appears almost all Registered memory is ECC. If i've understood everything you said and my research so far, these modules from Ebay should work.

So I've been reading and researching and it does appear R and E are compatible. The only question now is whether I can mix the ranks of RAM - existing 2rx8 & 2rx4. 2rx8 is significantly more expensive.
