Hello,

My future NAS has to be in the living room of my home and so it has to be silent.
I'm considering two different HDDs for Storage - WD Red or IronWolf (both 8 TB).
The two main points while choosing the HDD is how much heat will be produced and how loud/quite the HDDs are.
I think there should be 4 HDDs with 8 gig so which is the better ?

Avoid 8TB WD red if you want it silent, they are annoying. I can only recommend them with up to 6TB capacity if noise is an issue. No first hand experience with Ironwolf HDDs.
The amount of heat they produce (~5W per drive) is usually negligible if you only have a few of them.
