H13SSL-N - installation problems

H13SSL-N, all connected as per the manual:

FIRST BOOT

after a while

After a few minutes, turned off.

BOOT 2 -> no video at all

BOOT 3 -> no video till after 3 minutes I got the last image, then after a while the fans accelerate, but no video at all.

First reseated the ram dimms, BOOT 4, no video, then Removed all RAM but 1 in A1,

BOOT 5 The fans are spinning, No video at all.

I did follow all the steps in the troubleshooting section of the manual:

I also cleared the CMOS, but it didn;t help.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Epyc 9754.
BIOS as is, didn't touch it.

I have changed the RAM stick to one that has reached POST on another machine, and now get this, not sure this is a usual screen, I pressed on escape but nothing happens IMG_0092.JPEG

I need to make sure the PCIe is x16, and not set to auto or 4x4x4x4

but when i look in BIOS, I see only this:

the manual shows this EFI story but I don't see where I can change to ensure x16

My experience is that this board requires a gazillion boot cycles on hardware changes / unplugs; does it mostly itself though!
The last time without changes to the BIOS, it took 20 minutes to boot.

Did you have any issues with the GPU? I have a 5090, but in IPMI it shows: no data available

and in Ubuntu I've installed the drivers but when I do

Fixed the 5090 GPU thing with Ubuntu, it turns out 5090 needs driver that ends with "open", because RTX 5090 (Blackwell architecture) only works with NVIDIA’s new “Open Kernel Module” (OKM) driver path.

so for 4090

and for 5090

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-580-open
but still wonder why is the GPU not visible in IPMI?

The fans of the GPU don't work at all, they start spinning at the very beginning of the boot, and then they stop and stay static.
@ufear do the fans of your RTX pro 6000 spin during normal operations not just the boot?

As per this ChatGpt the fact that the GPU gets too hot (not true it's cold now I've just touched it), the fan mode in IPMI ignores my choice of standard and switches to optimal making it too loud. It shows standard in IPMI, but it actually behaves as optimal. Yesterday is started the optimal on its own and then at a given moment it switched by itself back to standard. I seem to be just redundant, no control whatsoever.

1. How to get the GPU fans spinning and control that?
2. How to tell H13SSL-N that although I appreciate the concern about the thermals I would like it to bloody listen and stick to my chosen fan mode of standard?

The fans on my GPUs work fine; they start spinning and keep spinning, haven't noticed them being off once; I can see the fan-speed in nvidia-smi and it auto adjusts; at idle they seem to stay fixed at 30%. At one point one of my cards wasnt properly seated/connected, so after some load it was dropped; at that point 'the GPU fan of that particular card sped up to 100% I think - so that seems to be the default if there is no communication.

I have given up on the fan control on this board more or less; I have a second hand Corsair Commander Pro on my desk right now waiting to be installed; which is a fan/rgb controller which supposedly has a linux kernel module which allows actual control of fans; wont be relevant for the GPUs though of course.

Do you by pass with this Corsair Commander Pro the stubbornness of the H13SSL-N BMC on fan control?
Including CPU fans and AIOs?
I have 3 AIO fans and 3 case fans , adds up nicely to 6 fans the Corsair Commander Pro claims to handle.
Do I understand it correctly by using this Corsair Commander Pro, I can literally override the BMC fan control on all fans? (the gpu is taking care of itself)

That's the theory, yes, haven't gotten to it yet! But, likely requires more tinkering, there is a linux driver, so should be able to make a bash script to poll the temps and go in one of the modes I dream up.

But the fans need somehow to be also connected to the motherboard, otherwise the BMC might think there is no fan, no boot. and if it is connected, will the Corsair Commander Pro be somewhere in between the motherboard and the fan? no sure how this all is supposed to work.

I'm planning exactly nothing plugged in to the motherboard, IF it whines about that I guess I think faking a non-pwm fan van be done by just putting a simple resistor between the 3 pins somewhere
