Hi Does anyone know if the mini cards are interchangeable between servers I have an DELL PE R720 with H710 mini that i have flashed in IT mode. My server DELL PE R730 has a H730 mini this card has an HBA mode but i have read it doesn't pass smart data properly. Can I put the H710 in the R730?

Also are the backplanes interchangeable i have a 16 bay in the R720 and 8 in the R730 can i swap them

I have a PERC H710 Mini B0 on a Dell R620. I was able to clear with B0CROSS. FreeDOS iso works fine but whatever I do, I can't boot to the deesh linux ISO. It doesn't show anything, goes to boot screen(3 options), I select first option, screen goes blank for a second and just reboots no matter how many times I tried.

All the settings like disabling some configs are done as well. I tried B0REVERT and then B0CROSS. No errors in either one. I also got a debian 12 live iso to boot and that works without any problem.

What could be the issue with deesh Linux ISO? Are there steps to get all the utiliies into a debian 11 or debian 12, so I could install them after booting to live and try running them?

Thanks

delete your isos and zip and re-download it from my site, and check the checksum. sounds like you got a corrupted image

Thanks! This is an iso download issue. I did 2 USB sticks and both had same issues. redownload and rewrite helped.

For 8 disk R620, the mappings that I was able to get in IT mode is below. I tried looking in the thread and don't think I saw for 8 disk option, so putting this here.

0 -> 4
1 -> 5
2 -> 6
3-> 7
4 -> 0
5 -> 1
6 -> 2
7 -> 3

After installation, I enabled UEFI and can boot from disk 4. (0 with original). However, once I boot, I see all disks showing 0B in sizes. In Devices in Setup, I can see the original disk sizes. I am using proxmox and lsblk shows 0B for all the disks other than 4 and 5 (original 0 and 1). lsmod for SAS shows mpt3sas so I think the right module is loaded. Has anyone run into this issue and have a possible fix?

Thanks

Hello,

Does anyone know why a h310 wouldn't recognize drives connected to it?

Can I change/update flash the card in linux? or do I need to boot to freedos?

you are using the right tool? ie megaraid, or the dell app or the "press [any] key to access bios" of the perc right?

those cards in raid mode won't show an OS anything until you set them up.

That's completely divorced from the flashing question.

Yes I am using the megaraid software, and I had asked about the flashing because I didnt know if something had gone wrong.

if the card is original, then something's wrong with the hardware (card, drives, cables, power etc. If you tried to flash it and something went wrong (like not following the instructions to the letter) then the card is in aa borked state and of course it won't recognise anything.

If it flashed correctly, then megaraid won't work anymore because it's designed for IR firmware not the IT you've just flashed to it.

last point - are you using drives with a 3.3v signal issue that fail to spin up because you're powering it from a consumer psu not a backplane?

With doing more research it may be because I am using a dell 9020 mini tower, but yes I can feel the drives spinning up.

I may have to do the tape trick. 4

Thanks

Hi so I'm using a dell r420 and just finished flashing my H710 mini D1 and now its no longer being seen by the r420 at all in idrac nor in the bios. there were no unexpected errors in the freedos section nor any in the linux one all the info appeared as it should when the 'info' command was used in linux aside from pci address appearing as 00:01:00:00 instead of 02. I have restarted the server multiple times and even attempted reseating the controller and reverting and reflashing to no avail.

it's now just a dumb pass through controller. The idrac doesn't know what it is anymore since it's not speaking a language idrac understands. (ie it's not a megaraid card with a dell bios anymore). If it has a bootable bios it may or may not show up as a unique device in the server bios, otherwise it gets a generic "external controller" or similar in the boot order options. if you only loaded the IT firmware without a bootable bios, then it won't "appear" anywhere except for the pcie devices scan list.

if you want to BOOT from it, then you need to flash the bootloader(s) as per the awesome docs. otherwise it should show up normally in OS. on some of my boxes i just booted from USB(GRUB on USB, rootfs on one of drives connected to the controller).
