Those couple of messages by Alan appear to be the only ones on the whole internet regarding P4600 having potentially poor reliability.
Any other sources @RTM ?

Hopefully this looks like another one of those stupid OEM specific nvme deadly firmware bugs like the oem pm1725 firmware issue.

[rant mode=on]HP & Dell really have a terrible history in buggering around with ssd firmwares for whatever bullshit/vendor-tweaking-locking purposes rather than just sticking to standards and keep the industry open and compatible, but oh nooooo, that doesn't bring home the big pay cheques. Bunch of friggin twats. If they could they'd be stamping CPUs with their logos and shoving their own buggered up microcodes in them too (I really shouldn't give them any ideas!)[rant mode=tbc]

Just ordered two @ 300 EUR a piece :) - tried 250 a piece first, but was autodeclined. - so somewhere in between might also work.
I will report back with issues ( I hope not, since they will go into my nvme pool in FreeNAS)

Chaps, it goes without saying, make certain you update the firmware to Intel's latest before you put them to good use. Thankfully Intel has a good track record keeping discontinued models supported where dire issues are concerned.

I passed on this one purely because I lack the slots plus have already gone the pcie-bridge route instead for future expansion room and for ease of migration to oculink on my next major decommissioning/upgrade phase.

I've just ordered one of these, thanks for the find!
Fingers crossed the firmware is sane and updatable (apparently Oracle versions of these can be firmware locked to something without trim support...!)

I would not be too worried - I checked the serial number of the one pictured and it has warranty until 2023 - so we are good if they are bricked on arrival - Intel should replace them - besides they look like vanilla Intel drives, I think any OEM would plaster their version with their name etc.

Allright - just received my two drives and they are "normal" intel drives, so no issues with firmware updates - just updated both with no issues - and both have less than 200TB data written and 98% life remaining - so nice drives :)
