So this is not the best deal ever o/c but they are pretty scarce and especially in EU.

These run at 100G , are technically EOL (only available as 100G variants now I think)

Seller also has rail kits for a good price

Managed mellanoxes feels like a rarity in general for Europe (that is also at a ok price).

Looked for quite a while before i ended up paying the double shipping from US.
Tho finding them both cheap + cheap shipping from US can also be "fun", but easier than Europe.

Nice find but this version appears to be limited to 40G:( Any idea on power consumption with a few modules and low load?

I have a "40G" variant and it runs 100G just fine (as I mentioned above).
Its at 60W now with a 25m active 100G mpo crosslink, 1x40g +1x10g dac downlink, and a fully populated 4:1 25G cable

@Rand__ Do you happen to have a manual at hand with precise measurements of the switch? I see he is also selling the side-by-side rack kit. Have some use but for SX6012. Could you measure yours if not mounted in a rack yet? Length width height and positioning of the side screw holes with calipers. ;-) No worries if already mounted and live... thanks!

Edit: By eyeballing the SN2100 and SX6012 I think latter is shorter. Also fewer screws. Nevermind...

Edit: I'm mistaken ... ignore the above

Yes, they won't fit. Got an EMC filler for a 6012 that i hoped to use for the SN2100 but didnt work.

Seller says 40G only - could this be a software licensing aspect? Otherwise it would be odd for Mellanox to sell 40G and 100G versions.
I thought the same (potentially needing to activate a 100G license) but in the end it worked without an extra license. Not sure why MLX had multiple versions and how they differentiated, but in the end nothing needed to be done on mine

Beware that this is not an officially supported SONiC platform - I had to do some modifications to make it work. With default Onyx it was working fine even at 100G.

overall it’s my choice for a home lab switch - small, just enough ports, really quiet with stock fans, fans assembly can be easily swapped. And it’s gonna be supported like an LTS product, according to NVidia.

Could you elaborate on those modifications?
You're using the supposedly 40G BB2F version at 100G?

FYI as well if you can get a version of Cumulus Linux 4.3+ it doesnt ask for licensing on actual mellanox HW. This was something IIR they changed in 4.3+

Sad that b4 the pandemic i was getting SN2700s for 1500$ USD and they skyrocketed in price..

Not a switch but I just bought an APC 8659EU3 19 inch rack PDU for 100+shipping. Seller may have thought it is partly defective, because of communication error reports in web UI. While in reality, the network management card has CAN bus in/out for stacking units, and he may have not read the manual in full to know that a terminator is needed. 120 Ohms between RJ45 pin 1+2 btw. Normal price is more like 1500-2000.

As with everything in life, excellent deals need to be hunted. Under the right market conditions. Chip shortage has sucked the market for anything >= 40 Gbps very dry. Current recession and in its wake company closures should bring more stuff back into the market in a bit.
