Very nice, hope we do not see a 6 month delay on ACTUAL delivery this time into GA. Now if SM would just pull their head out, just my luck...I'm already all in on these new 2011 systems so I'll be content.

kudos Gigabyte

Apparently they chose to use Cortina CS4227 PHY's for the SFP+, it will be interesting to see how this will work out.
As it is a PHY, perhaps the solution will be something like the Intel i354 NICs and the Marvell 88E1543 PHY, on the Avoton/Rangeley platforms.

@Patrick I hope you can source one for a test.

LOL, so these aren't the Intel X557's or whatever the 10G Base-T/RJ-45 option uses? GREAT (sarcastically) now we get to wait for VMware to validate that 10G phys and roll a driver for months.

Good hell, all you can do is laugh otherwise I'd cry myself to sleep based on the irony.

My understanding is that the 10 gig MAC is built into the Xeon D and the Cortina SFP+ is just the PHY (physical layer). That means that they should show up as an Intel X557 no matter which type of PHY you use (SFP+ or 10G Base-T). Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I think this is a repeat of that Marvell Alaska on the Atom C2000 series i354
