In terms of other switches with four 10G ports, there's the HP 1950-24G-2SFP+-2XGT (as the name might suggest, 24xGbE ports, 2xSFP+ ports, 2x10GbE ports) - same setup as the Netgear S3300 28X more or less but with a heftier price tag (~£700 here in the UK) so not sure it really belongs in this thread... but certainly a contender. It's spec lists a dual-speed fan for quietness but how long it'll stay in quiet mode I'm not sure...
Code:
Acoustic

    Low-speed fan: 19.0 dB, High-speed fan: 44.5 dB;
    ISO 7779 Dual speed fan

Once you need more than 2 SFP+ ports pickings get slim. These seem to be the switches within reasonable lab prices with 4 SFP+. I can't speak to the reliability or compatibility of them but they seem to be the go to's. I have the D-Link and its reasonably quiet and i've had no issues however, i haven't done 10G yet. There are also others like the Dell you mentioned.

NETGEAR ProSAFE 24-port (GS728TXS)
D-Link DGS-1510-28X
Zyxel XGS3700-24
Throwing in a vote for the Juniper EX3300 as these have been hovering around $450-550 recently. Saw one go for $419 last week. Comes w/ 4 10GbE SFP+ ports built-in, love my ex3300 so far!

For those of us looking for a Switch with 4 - SFP+ Ports, Dell has their X1052 on sale for $608 and their X1052P POE Version for $911.05. The only bad thing about their POE Version is that it doesn't offer POE on all of the ports only 24 Ports of POE and 12 Ports of POE+. Still seems like a relatively good deal for so many ports. Decisions, decisions!!! =)

I thought I would add an update to my last post about the Dell X1052p, yes I ended up getting it from e-bay for $756 after an e-bay coupon for $100 off. Yes I know this is more than the $500 of this thread but again this is a 52 port POE switch, the non POE Version is in the $500 - $600 range with 4 10G SFP+ Ports.

I have to say this thing is a freaking tank, I've worked with pretty much every brand switch you can imagine over the years and I would have to compare this to a Cisco 4948 in size and weight. This is the first switch that I've bought for myself personally that actually comes with rails! It is big and heavy but the great news is that it is quiet as can be at idle. Obviously I assume it will ramp up as the POE consumption goes up (depending on the environment of course) but so far I am very impressed with it. I am hoping to add it to my network in the next few weeks if I can find the time.

One other comment is how bright the LEDs are on the ports. I mean BRIGHT!!!! There is no way you can miss the status that's for sure! Now I just have to wait until my SFPs get delivered and hope that they work.

@Pete L. or anyone else - have you tried DELL X1052 DELL Smart Web Managed Switch 48 Port 1GBE 463-5911 - New Open Box as a seller? At $600 I'd get it from Dell for $607, but maybe cheaper with an open box?
Direct from Dell is on sale right now (they always have some kind of a sale) but saw that one did sell on e-bay for $499 not to long ago so you might want to contact the sellers on e-bay and see if they have any flexibility in their price since Dell is at the same price they are selling for. I've had pretty good luck in the past with doing that.

I haven't put my switch in to production yet but so far I am very impressed with it, don't know what the heck I am going to do with all of those ports but wanted the 4 10G Ports more than anything so here's to hoping it is a good switch for my needs.

Oh one other thing - Do you buy from e-bay regularly? I had an offer for 20% off from them with a max of $100 off from sometime last week until the end of this week. It wasn't a code it was just in my account. That would be a great deal if you had that like I did.

Another somewhat surprising update on the Dell X1052P I honestly thought that this switch would be "Vendor Locked" when it came to the 10G SFP+ but I put in the el-cheap-o ones I've been using in my Mellanox ConectX-2 and 3 Cards and it shows up as unknown but the links come right up (as 10G Links) and they are passing traffic. Woo Hoo - lol

I am pleased to announce I finally got the "poor" man 10gb solution going. Using the following parts:
Dell PowerConnect 6224 24-Port Gigabit Layer 3 Switch w/ Rack Ears "WARRANTY"
with
Dell PowerConnect FJ727 10GBe Fiber Module XFP 6224 6248 w/ 1x FTLX8511D3 GBIC
and
NEW SEALED DELL FORCE10 FTLX8511D3-FC GP-XFP-1S MFGR4 XFP 10GB SR transceiver
going into
Intel 10 GbE XF SR 2 Port Server Adapter PCIe Full Height EXPX9502FXSRGP5
Now two of my ESXi servers are on 10gbe link, on the cheap. I am plan to stack another Dell6224 and get use the same method to connect another two servers 10gb.

Unit Interface Mode Mode Status Speed (Gb/s)
---- ---------------- ---------- ---------- ------------ ------------
1 xg1 Ethernet Ethernet Link Up 10
1 xg2 Ethernet Ethernet Link Up 10

Thank you @push3r
Amazing Advice!

My only issue is how to optimize it, advice highly required. Each server is got Raid10 with 8 ssds. I am only getting 185mb/s a second when testing. Jumbo frames enable.

Got my Dell Switch installed / configured and just about ready to cut over to 10G Links in to the new designated systems. Wouldn't you know it one of the systems doesn't have a Slot available for the 10G Card. Its always something huh? I will say when it comes to the Dell X1052 switchh it doesn't appear to be pick about SFP+'s at all. I've put several in just for testing and so far it says unknown vendor but they all work with my ConnectX-2 and ConnectX-3 Cards.

I ordered one from newegg, $590, should be arriving soon. I'll report back but from what i'm seeing so far, this is a great switch!

I'll be using Cisco TwinAX cables.

Happy New Year. has anyone tried these 12 SFP+ ports? They are about 870USD in Australia, same family as the X1052.

What 10Gig switches are the best as far as getting access to firmware updates for free? I'm assuming the Dell/Netgear/Dlink stuff would be ok, but what about Juniper, etc? From my experience anything from an "enterprise" vendor usually requires a support contract.

Yeah, I am starting to get anxious to find a newer switch but don't want the support contract crap either. I have several Juniper items I just leave on a shelf in a box because of that mess...
