Recently got an Aruba S2500: 24pt gigabit PoE +4 SPF+. Loud at startup, but quietens down quickly.

Bargain at £125

How's the power consumption? I'm seeing a 180w PSU on the non-POE version and a 580w on the POE versions. In the US, i'm seeing a number of these in the $115-160 range.

It's a couple months since the last post... Just wondering if there are any new options or deals, especially in Europe. I'm thinking about a rackmount 16-24 port gigabit switch with 2-4 SFP+ ports for homelab use. Currently running 2 x Netgear GS110TP and looking for an upgrade. Considering the TP-LINK T1700G-28TQ or Netgear GC728X (though not convinced about the cloud aspect, although it seems optional).

I just added a 2nd T1700G-28TQ to my network. For the money (current under $300), I still think it's the best thing going for 4 spf+ and FANLESS.

Mikrotik CSS326-24G-2S+RM or CRS326-24G-2S+RM?
Thanks. I have been looking at some of these Microtiks but was reading about non-support of LACP, which I need. Is that the case?

It does indeed look like good value for money and tempting. I would want to connect currently to my Netgear GS110TP with 1G connection and later upgrade to 10G. Long-shot but anyone have an idea if it would work with 3rd-Party Netgear compatible AGM731F SFP modules? I don't want to crash this thread so have posted a separate one for a switch recommendation. Thanks.

BTW if any potential purchasers are wondering about the Web GUI interface I found this emulator:

SwOS does support LACP on these models.

The documents indicate that it will support 1G SFP modules, and it doesn't seem to have a whitelist. I'm using SFP+ modules from FS.com flashed for Intel cards with my T1700G-28TQ and they work fine.

Mikrotik just released its new CRS-328-24P-4S+RM @ 379$

The main difference to the previous CRS-328-24G-2S+-RM is that it gives you an additional 2 SFP+ 1/10G ports on top of the PoE at/af/passive output on all 24 1G RJ45 ports with a total power budget of 450W.

Seeing as RouterOS 6.41 introduced proper hardware acceleration with further improvements in the current release candidate version 6.42rc I very much tempted to snag up a few of them.
Sadly, the L3 performance sucks on this one as well. Seems to top out just under 1Gbit in routing performance....

Again, just like with the CRS326, the switching is wirespeed but Layer-3 hardware acceleration (HW accel routing) is limited to 1Gbps. Routing is all handled by the management processor, which only has a 1Gbps connection to the rest of the switch core;

RouterOS v7 (whenever that happens to land - will be 2020 at this rate) will bring support for HW-accelerated routing features, and they may appear in ROS V6 before then, but until that happens you should consider all of the CRS series to be layer-2 switches with a built-in WAN router (ie for your internet connection) - not smart layer-3 switches.

Hi looking for a 4+ SFP+ quiet Switch i will read the entire post to have an idea of the available models...
Popular model here that’s fanless and cheap, T1700G-28TQ
Or there is a new mikrotik that’s also fanless with 4 sfp+

Indeed very cheap in price only 229€ in france and seems to have been seen lower than 200€
I am under investigation to know if the latest mikrotik are fanless or at least smart fan managed.
the new refs with 4sfp+ are
CRS328-24P-4S+RM
CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+
CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+
CRS305-1G-4S+IN

The P versions have POE so might not be fanless.

Not many ports but you would pretty much have to assume by the size (and the fact 4 x SFP+ is not s big heat load) that the CRS305-1G-4S+IN is fanless.
Dual DC input is kind of a gimmick you would think but interesting idea for a small switch.

Looks like a great home lab high speed switch for just backend switching between a few servers

Depending on price it can be a good solution in addition to my GS724Tv3.
But all included CRS328-24P-4S+RM or CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+ is also tempting as they provide 4SFP+ and POE on 24+ RJ45 ports (And 40g QSFP for the second one).
HP QSFP cards are so inexpensive these days...

Lets check the prices and compare the différences and availability to conclude.
We also have the the TRENDnet TEG-30284 for less than 300€.
