Much of this thread is about either 'entry level' switches, or older big name switches.
The first either have a historical 'cheap' name (TP-link), or lack real reliability (the latest ubiquity 10G switches), or I have some bad experiences with them (TP-Link again, and Zyxel).
The latter are in the vast majority power hungry and loud.

So I went looking for some affordable big name, low power switches.

My personal requirements:
  • Low power use. Not more than 25W idle. More power consumption means not only more noise, but also additional power consumption and noise for climate control.
  • At least 4 * SFP+
  • At least 10 * 1Gbe RJ45
  • VLAN management. Routing and other fancy L3 stuff is not needed.
  • Purchase price and license/maintenance/warranty cost should be 'acceptable'. That is what this thread is about.
So I came up with the following:

Note that prices listed are for NEW only, so refurbished/2nd hand hunting is in order in all of these cases. Which seems to be possible, at least for the Cisco switches.
  • Cisco SG350X-24 and SG550X-24: both about 850-1000 EUR, 33W max. Idle will be good.
  • Juniper EX2300-24T: about 700 EUR, 55W max. No idea what idle power consumption is. Probably over 35W when I look at the average ratios though.
  • Extreme Networks 220-48t-10GE4: about 1000 EUR, 27W idle (as derived from their BTU numbers).
  • Brocade ICX 6450-24: about 2000 EUR, 36W idle. Seems to require a license to enable all SFP+ ports. (This has bitten me before....)
  • Arista is way off, it does not seem to have an SMB offering.
So that would mean Cisco, Juniper or Extreme.

My questions:
  • Any other suggestions? Please be aware that I'm in Europe, so many ebay.com deals are not really deals for me due to transport and taxes.
  • I have no direct experience with Cisco, as I have always managed to steer around them. Used Brocade mostly lately, and Juniper and Extreme before then. Do I need SmartNet for the Cisco models mentioned?
  • Anybody knows what the idle consumption of the Juniper is?

if you can do with a total of 12 Ports, Dell x4012 has a quite low idle draw.
for 10x 1gb rj45 you can use 1Gb rj45 sfp's on sfp+ ports, too.
this brings more flexibility, as you could use an sfp+ - only switch with i.e 16 or 24 Ports.
these can be found cheap, even in EU (in a couple of weeks i will get a bunch i wont need anyomore to Germany, pm if interested)

anyone tried someting link this:

4 10gbe SFP+ and 26 1gbe ports for 880 CNY

万兆交换机4口SFP+万兆+24口千兆万兆光纤交换机24口网吧无盘

15 10gbe SFP+ and 8 1gbe ports for 3280 CNY

万兆交换机15口SFP+1口千兆光口+8口千兆电口核心交换机网吧无盘

FWIW Taobao does have an english site.

[USD 199.67] Gigabit switch, 4 port SFP + Gigabit + 24 port Gigabit switch 24-port Gigabit fiber Internet diskless - Taobao agent |Tmall agent - EnglishTaobao.net

24port gig, 4SFP+ ~$200 USD

It's pretty much a no-name switch from ShenZhenShi ADICS Technology Co (首页-深圳市阿帝克斯科技有限公司)

Given the interesting price point and port count I did some digging and a number of manufactures build basically the same switch.

Broadcom Chipset Switch 28 Ports 10gigabit Eterprise Switch - Buy Broadcom Chipset Switch,10gigabit Eterprise Switch,28 Ports Eterprise Switch Product on Alibaba.com

Little bit cheaper and Zisa does know how to put their site in multiple languages (ZISA -Data Communication solution Provider |xDSL|DSLAM|Fiber|GEPON|SFP|Converter)
Like many places over in the industrial part of China, they produce multiple skus that are very similar in nature. S4700-28X has a front mounted PSU while the OP4700-28X has rear mounting for the PSU. Both are fanless, draw less than 20w, and are L3 lite switches.

They also sell the non-SFP+ variant on Amazon...at a slightly higher price point

Right now the Mikrotik CRS317 + a CSS326 is a pretty potent combo.

Two low power switches and you can use 1-2 SFP+ ports for uplinks to the CRS317 all for around $500.

Should I delete the impacted links?

Went to that site and my AV popped up: Clam.Html.Exploit.CVE_2017_11793-6336854-1
Nice feature...a lot of those sites are just getting shady.

FWIW, if you check ebay periodically sometimes surplus companies will mis-price equipment and you get a the sfp+ variants for sfp variant prices;).

Going to Necro this thread, but I think this might be the best deal out there for 10Gb Switches.
Seeing a lot of Cisco UCS 6120xp and UCS 6140xp gear being disposed of. These are 20/40 port 10GB SFP+ switches.
They can be flashed to the Cisco Nexus Software and become a Nexus 5010/5020.

Going rate seems to be around $150

What? UCS6100 can run NX-OS? Do you have a link for how this is done?

Netgear GS728TXS - sub $300 anyday, lowest seen was sub $150.
24x gig ports, 4x SFP+ ports (1w per port active on the SFP+ side), and idles at 25w empty.

+1 for the T1700G-28TQ.

pros:
- The fanless silence is deafening :)
- It readily accepted the generic DACs I had sitting around.
- The CLI is relatively cisco-like, with tab completion and ? to see command options.
- web GUI is also pretty good
- dual flash images (primary + backup), in case a firmware update goes awry

cons:
- I absolutely hate the vlan configuration syntax. It does not have a concept of access (only untagged traffic) vs 802.1q trunk ports (only tagged traffic + PVID). The switchport type is "general" and then you must specify which vlans tagged and/or untagged, + PVID. This just makes for extra typing. For traditional access port behavior you must specify the PVID to be the vlan you desire, and untagged egress of the vlan you desire.

*edit 1 more con - no console port
