Apologies for disappearing for a while - It is realistically going to take me another 2-3 weeks before I will be able to get caught up on replies and list updates - I have finally restored a backup of my personal laptop after an SSD failure a couple of months ago, and my main NAS with the backups had a boot SSD failure in the meantime (yes, I had intended to, but then forgotten to upgrade it from a USB stick to a DOM), and it all took forever to deal with (simple as it was) while surgery recovery assistance was eating up all of my time and sleep.

***

Hi all, apologies for the lack of communication recently - about three weeks ago another urgent medical situation came up suddenly, which left me no time to deal with anything until now. Fortunately it is the beginning of the resolution of the more acute situation that started last winter, so that is good.

I should be able to (actually) get my dual X9 boards onto the list, and I have decided to sell more of my chassis' including SAS3 backplane 216 with rear dual 2.5 hotswaps, and some others. Local deals/trades are as always appreciated, but I have located most of my shipping boxes and will be sorting out which of them have 2U/3U/4U inserts.

#

IO shields acquired, and will now be included with X10 Xeon E3-1200 v3/v4 and Atom C2000 boards!

#

Thanks to everyone who has responded, and my apologies for taking a few days to respond to some of you in some cases. Thanks for bearing with me while I coordinate care. I used to always reply as I saw message notices, but for now I will need to batch my DM replies - I should be able to reply at least every 2-3 days, hopefully more frequently as care patterns settle in.

###

Hello all,

I've had lots of fun on the forums and trading parts with many of you for several years, but I've sadly been mostly absent for the last couple of years dealing with some family health issues, which have become worse recently. I set up and completely reworked my home lab several times, but I now I really need to find new homes for a lot of the stuff I won't have time to play with anymore, for both space and cashflow reasons. I am hoping to stay a little more involved in this great community than I have been the last few years, but I will probably never have the same amount of free time as I used to, and need to scale back my sizeable home lab.

TLDR: I am selling off a bunch of my lab stuff to make space and recoup some cash for increasing bills. As you will see, most of my stuff is Supermicro gear oriented towards NAS/Storage, networking, and all in one homelab builds. My prices may not be rock bottom Ebay prices, but I have tested and upgraded firmware for everything unless noted otherwise, and I am offering free assembly and testing of any set of parts you get for me into a working system, so please bear that in mind when reviewing my list here. That said, I will adjust if things are way off market, and I tend to throw in freebies and round down if you get a lot of stuff.

If you are local in the SF Bay area, please come get things - as you might expect, I have been taking the pandemic very seriously, cleaning everything with alcohol, etc. For non-local people, I can ship Fedex Ground (account rates are 25-30% less than standard rates) or USPS Priority Mail at cost, and I'll round down (a few marked items are priced with shipping included). For shipping, I have a limited number of quality 1U-4U Supermicro and other shipper boxes with precut closed cell foam inserts, when I run out of those, I will have to go with local pickup only for any remaining larger items.

I'm linking to my old FS/FT/WTB and free stuff threads for reference (I never got around to setting up a heatware account) but items and prices in those have NOT been cleaned up yet - I have started to move items still available from those here with updated prices, but if you see anything in my older postings you are interested in, just ask, and I'll let you know if it is still available.

Here is what I definitely know I have available right now:

Complete quiet Towers running FreeNAS or Unraid on 16GB flash drive or DOM,
ready for data drives! These are based on an X9SCL (or X9SCM and or -F versions w/ BMC, LMK if you care) board with a LSI SAS2008 controller (for >14 bays choose a second controller or HP SAS2 expander), CPU choice of low power Pentium G620T, i3-2120T (+$20 for Xeon e3-1220L v2 17W TDP, +$30 for Xeon e3-1260L 45W TDP) 8GB ECC unbuffered as 4x 2GB, (+$60 for 16GB as 2x 8GB instead) 80+ PSU. I can trade the x9 boards out for others, but these x9 boards do make a great low power NAS or modest AIO virtualization lab with storage.

  • $25 - 2TB 3.5" Seagate and WD enterprise with a bunch of hours, but solidly tested good
  • $60 - 2TB 2.5" 7mm Seagate / Samsung - these are SMR, but fit in newer laptops, will trade for 9mm non-SMR version
Mini / embedded / industrial systems with GPIO, etc.:

  • $60 - Soekris Net 5501-70 512MB in case
  • $60 - Soekris Net 6501-70 2GB in case, but UNTESTED - I have misplaced my serial console kit, hence the low price, I have a few and will give a bulk deal if you take them all
  • $50 - Dragonboard 410c
  • $80 - Cubox Pro 2GB version
  • $100 - Cubox i4 Pro
Trades - items I am looking for:
  • Atom C3758 or C3958 motherboard - ideally Supermicro, but I'll consider anything, Mini ITX, Flex ATX, or Micro ATX would all be fine, and I actually prefer more PCIe slots.
  • 2.5" 4TB and 2TB non-SMR spinners (Samsung ST2000LM003 9mm preferred for 2TB, Seagate 15mm ST4000LM016 for 4TB)

  • 32GB or 16GB DDR4 Unbuffered ECC both regular and SODIMMs
  • 1.6TB -7.68TB SAS or SATA or maybe NVMe SSDs, and I am happy to trade other SSDs or equipment I have for them
  • Rolling 4-post 20-32U half rack / cabinet, 30" deep, square holes
I'll add more stuff as I get to inventorying it, please ask if you're looking for something specific.

Here are my old threads for reference, I may update them if I get time:

Thanks for looking, and stay safe!

Sorry to hear about you family health issue. Hope you come of the other side soon.

I am also in similar situation.
My son is waiting for kidney transplant.
My mother is in memory care nursing home. With the lock down, we were only able see her few hours this year.

See you on the other side of the tunnel.

Best wish

wow guys. @Marsh and @sfbayzfs - That is heart breaking.

I'd buy a bunch of hardware just to support you guys, but I'm sure you've seen my history and the ridiculous amount of hardware I have. Don't take this the wrong way...I'm happy to contribute to a gofundme or something similar, if it helps.

Best wishes to all of you that are facing health issues. Be very, very wary of this pandemic. It claimed my father right after he finished his chemo. :( I miss him dearly.

Sorry for your loss.
I spent two years caring for my father , chemo , kidney dialysis.
Watching his weight went down to 75 pounds. I was happy that he passed , no more pain.

I worried about my mother getting COVID.
Every week, nursing home sent out email, almost every week, there is a positive test.
Three months ago, 50% of memory care residents tested positive, lucky, my mother been virus free.
Good news, she may be getting the virus vaccine in next few weeks.

Stay safe.

Thanks all for your kind wishes and stories of loved ones, my heart goes out to everyone having an especially tough time now with healthcare issues compounded by the pandemic, or related more directly to it. We had been getting used to my dearest being on permanent chemo, and fortunately avoided COVID19 so far, but recently an unrelated nerve issue resulted in a bad leg injury, and now we are stuck apart, and care facilities are at capacity, and no visiting as the pandemic surges again.

We have fond memories of meeting many of you at the first STH meetup a few years ago, hopefully another can happen when it is safe to do so again.

Stay safe all.

@Samir, thanks, and best wishes, and my deepest condolences.

@sfbayzfs, best wishes, and keep your head up, we are fighters, and cancer will not win.

After a tons of different treatment and operations I am happy, I am still not infected with Covid.

I'm tired of stupid irresponsible people. I was in an ambulance this week and I had to force 6 people not to sit right next to me because of fear of the risk of covid infection. Some were so stupid that they didn’t understand what I was talking about. One was so cheeky that I would go away (it is recommended to sit with my legs operated on anyway...), but I couldn’t know where to go there was not free space available. The stupidest is my physiotherapist, who makes a condescending statement about covid and spit on our government for safety measures. Disgusting.

Today I was talking to a cardiologist who has undergone Covid and he is working despite his high heart rate because they don’t have enough human resources. Despite the healing, he is very tired and his breathing is not 100% percent cured. He said, the covid infection causes thrombosis and heart attack in a lot of cases of patients, so it really isn’t a game.

I agree with financial problems, the chemo drugs are extremely expensive. For example 1 box (60 pills) of Votrient 400 mg (this blocks the reproductional procedure between synovial sarcoma cancer cells) full price costs 2200 USD / month, with payed social security fee of the state it is 7 USD.

I have been debating getting another Supermicro chassis for a while, what would be a rough estimate to ship a 3u or 4u to zip 27858?
Last time I shipped something 3U or 4U in that area via Fedex Ground, I think it was somewhere in the $60-$80 range, I'll just call it $60.

Sorry about your family and yes, health counts more than anything else. Only dealt with you once; buying some Supermicro gear - and you were kind and took your time helping me out. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

The DDR4 Ram : do you have any 16GB Samsung M393A2G40EB1-CRC0Q ; 2Rx4 PC4 2400T - RA1

Is that SC847 LFF or LP expansion slots? Finding a decent LP GPU to fit my SC825 for rendering is a pain and I've got a decent full size card just laying around.

Hi, thanks, and I have close, but not quite that RAM - I have 8 pieces of the 1Rx4 version of those, and two pieces of the 2Rx4 but only at 2133P, the 2400T are all Supermicro certified.

Hey @sfbayzfs I’m interested in some stuff:

What is the model # for the SC216 chassis? I want to look up the parts list if you have it handy.

How many 15.36TB ssds do you have?
For the SC216 chassis' I have a few - most are with the SAS2 expander backplane, one has the "A" direct backplane, and I should have an extra or two available with the rear dual hotswap kit installed as well for a little more. (The "A" one I just looked at just says "P/N CSE-216" not the usual variant sub-designation, but I'll check the others to see if they are more specific)

PSU-wise, most of them have the 1200W golds, and the "A" one currently has the older PWS-902-1R, but I can put whatever PSUs you want in them.

I also have some dual SAS2 expander backplanes I can easily trade in to the 216 if those are more interesting than the single expander versions...

I only have one of the 15.36TB SSD - I was originally hoping to get a few more for some super high density in a 216, but that direction was looking too expensive, and I had to back off.

Is that SC847 LFF or LP expansion slots? Finding a decent LP GPU to fit my SC825 for rendering is a pain and I've got a decent full size card just laying around.
Most of my 847 and 2U have the 7x LP slot rear windows, however, I have at least 3x systems with the high spec x8 UIO motherboard with 10G and 9260-8i on board, but I may have one more which doesn't have a motherboard with it already - if so, I could trade the back window, I've done it before, I'll look around an let you know.

Anything with LFF will do, as long as it's got at least 8 3.5" bays so I can carry over my current drive setup. Also, 16g 1Rx4 you say? My 4x 8g 1Rx4 is a little lonely haha.

@Samir, very sorrey to hear of your loss. I trust you & family will get thru this. Sincere Condolences.
Thank you so much. I take it day by day. It has hit me pretty hard in the last few days and comes and goes. It is still very fresh.

Stay safe.
Thank you so much. My dad had just finished all his chemo and we were looking forward to his tastes becoming normal so he would eat normally again--that was his only side effect, and it only happened in his last 2 months of treatment--otherwise he had zero side effects. I had not been home for 6 months since I was taking care of my dad and he was alone since my mom passed the previous year, and that was hard on my poor wife. So I went home for just a week and had to cut it short as covid hit him hard while I was gone. :( The day I left for home that morning, I didn't wake him since it was so early even though he will usually wake to see me off--now I wish I would have since that was the last time I saw him alive at home. The what ifs of what I could have done differently keeps me up at night sometimes.

I'm very happy to hear your mom is virus free and is getting the vaccine soon. It really pisses me off that people like your mother are not immediately given the vaccine when doctors doing telemedicine from home that are in no immediate danger are given priority. My wife's cousin and her extended family all got the vaccine before Christmas, and NONE of them are in the immediate danger like your mom. It is situations like this where I have lost all faith in humanity.
