I use an old windows XP VM with old Java. It can only hit the local LAN and only runs when I want to IPMI to something.

With the latest Java 8 131 I cannot get IPMIview KVM to work anymore. Ive tried editing the MD5 part and so on. Seems like the bundled JVM just crash. This is getting annoying.
IPMIView has its own, built-in JRE. You dont need to install another one.

I got so frustrated with JAVA IPMI in general, I setup an Intel NUC specifically with all of the vendor certs I needed, JAVA, compatible browser versions. Now I just remote into that machine and use that as a jump box.

Not elegant but when you are swapping in/out 10+ vendors gear it is necessary.

Luckily IPMIView still works for me. Has to be started using Administrator privileges and compatibility mode with Windows 7 but still does the job.

Have not tried IPMIview but browser based (FF) works fine here (for a change).
But come to think of it, a jump vm does sound like a good idea...
