I ordered a Hailo8 this morning and want to get Frigate running, any good tips/setup guides you can point my toward?

First test candidate:

- HP T740 with a too small SATA m.2 drive and open nvme slot. This has AMD v1756b processor which doesn't seem to allow detection so needed the Hailo card
- 32gb of ram (2x16)
- Supermicro x710 quad port sfp+ card
- Intel a+m i226v card
- Cisco 2960s 24 port switch with POE+ and 10g sfp+, I do have a 2.5g module I can use if it works in this switch.

I also have an old nVidia Quadro K1200 card I can toss in, but I think it is a generation too old, think I need M series as minimum.

Target is 8 cameras, but want to test as many as I can get my hands on (12 I think) for another use case.

Future "production" use would be a pc with n150 or n305/355 processor and a few TB worth of storage.

My first question is how many cameras?

I would just go to your production setup now as the built in hardware should work without the hailo8.

I will put the Hailo into the production too, it will arrive in the next day or two.

I still haven't looked at production based mini-pc yet, so not sure what I want.

I will say, getting this Hailo-8 installed is frustrating. Most of the online guides I find are based on RasPi 5, not debian. The couple I have found don't work on debian 13. And the "official" process requires an account in their developer program, and it doesn't seem to like my email address.

Going to poke at this a bit more, then wipe the computer and install debian 12 and see if that works better with the documented posts on the internet.

Looks like I need Ubuntu 22.04 for the Hailo software to function :(

Starting over.

I have the Hailo-8 drivers installed with Ubuntu 22.04 but haven't had time to get docker installed or Frigate running. I have a feeling that Frigate is going to give me problems since I have an older OS installed and I'm going to need to figure out which parts are needed and install the Hailo-8 drivers from source for a more modern OS. Not really sure why the company hasn't updated the driver installers for things like Debian 13 or latest stable Ubuntu.

I ended up breaking the Ubuntu and got fed up with it. Ubuntu and me just doesn't want to work together. I'm going to figure out how the handle the Hailo-8 drivers on Debian 13 and just move forward, or at least get Frigate running on Debian 13 while I work on the Hailo drivers.

The only thing they seem to be actively working on is the RasPi software and I think they are leaving a lot of options on the table for people to use these TPU devices, I don't think a RasPi 5 is going to handle 12-16 HD+ cameras (like a 2k resolution).

This may need to get delayed by a lot of time, kind of need that host for something bigger.
