I'm interested in running FreeNAS on Hyper-V (server 2016) to manage the home storage needs. I'm having a couple of problems with Server - the biggest one is where the OS will cache written data to RAM, write to disk and then when the disk cannot keep up, ends up at 0b/s. Then, I get a prompt telling me to retry the file operation. Seemingly, this only happens when copying files on the server itself - not shares. It's slightly annoying. (At least I think that is what's happening)

Does FreeNAS exhibit the same behaviour about writing to RAM then screwing up the transfer? Are there blatant management advantages on moving to FreeNAS vs Windows Server?

Disks would be attached by network share or iSCSI for fixed disks if that helps.

Cheers!
