Eh, the specs are here. It's a Denverton C2750 based setup with 16GB of DDR3L and a 4 bay JBOD. You might get better bang for the buck loading up an HP Microserver G10/Opteron X3421 to the same level, or wait until someone drops pricing on a Xeon-D 1541 based chassis (like the SuperMicro 5028D).

Most likely yes. Toss in a pair of 8GB DDR3 ECC RDIMMs (around 125), and it's still less than the retail sale price on the FreeNAS Mini. Buying the hardware from them is a good idea if you need the warranty/paid support, but otherwise, just build a FreeNAS box (and I think you can still buy a software support contract from them)

The FreeNAS Mini and MiniXL use the SM case with the ASRR motherboard.

You are paying a premium, but it also supports the product. I would not be surprised if they start introducing features in the future that are free with the Minis. At some point they will need to generate revenue.

My bad, @Patrick says the board is ASRR. Must have been confused with some other ZFS NAS I was looking at when checking these.
