Now that this has been out for a few weeks, I wanted to see how folks like the new FreeNAS? I am considering moving my home NAS from NAS4Free to FreeNAS now that there is an updated kernel with Mellanox support.

i'm keeping FreeNas 9.3 for now.

I'm waiting a while before upgrading to the 9.10
The 9.10 is mainly a FreeBSD OS upgrade (9 to 10) but the FreeNas layer remains globally the same.

I'v heard they have few issues and i prefer to wait a bit. but it's a good upgrade for drivers support since FreeBsd 10 have drivers for Mellanox, better ones for Chelsio and i think (but not sure) a better support of SAS3 controllers.

I just upgraded mine. So far so good. I don't have any jails or addins to muck it up tho.

I went from a 9.3 nightly to 9.10 a couple of weeks ago to pick up stable X557 10GE support. I immediately ran afoul of this bug, and disabled HTTPS for a few days until it was patched. It's been smooth sailing otherwise.

I have been running it at work for lab/dev vmware infrastructure. No complaints here.

I was under the impression that Mellanox cards should work, but mine doesn't seem to. The kernel should be capable of driving it. I might have to switch to Linux, it just works there.

I've hesitated to run virtualized storage... The performance wasn't there when I tried it last time. However, that was before vt-d so there were some inefficiencies in that setup. I'll have to look into it.

i migrated from 9.3 to 9.10 and it went very smoothly. 1 gig-e ethernet, about 40Tb of data in 2 raidz2 pools. 1 raidz mirror of SSD's.
The SMART config tasks didn't migrate over. I had to update that to be correct. Overall very satisfied. Looking forward to learning more about the byhve virtual capabilities.

Well then... I was going to try bhyve, but it doesn't work on my hardware for Linux, which is what I wanted it for in the first place. Sigh... Guess I'm moving to ESXi. As virtualized FreeNAS causes so much heartburn on their forum, I think I'll just use napp-it/OmniOS. I used an earlier version on OpenIndiana and it worked well then, so I imagine it will still do well.
