It's the QNAP QSW-M2116P-2T2S :D

Let me start with the shortcomings. It costs 3x more than a good deal on popular used enterprise switches, it's only L2, and probably not as reliable.

But the main selling point is that it has multigig 2.5g PoE+ and 10g PoE++ which is very hard to come by. Refer to HERE, and HERE, also HERE, and many other threads.

I've deployed ICX6610's in two office sites, which VPNs to our main vSAN cluster connected with a ICX6650 in a colocation center. Overkill on my home network would be nice just because. But that's not the purpose of this switch. It has just enough ports, just the right management features, port speeds, port types, size, and noise for my home setup. No more no less, and I couldn't be happier. in case anyone wondering what's connected to this switch:
  • 2x ruckus R750 wifi AP (2.5g PoE+)
  • 7x security cameras (1g PoE)
  • 1x access panel/doorbell camera (1g PoE)
  • 1x VoIP phone (1g PoE)
  • 2x TV (1g)
  • 2x desktops (10g)
  • NAS/DVR (10g SFP+)
  • 3x cat8 to all bedrooms
  • main server (10g SFP+) that runs:
- win2019 - DNS, domain controller, DHCP, Active Directory, RADIUS
- pfsense firewall
- linux - OpenVPN
- win10 - Blue Iris, Deepstack AI
- linux - Home Assistant

Do you have any throughput numbers for the Ruckus APs? I've got plenty of 10 gig SFP+ ports but I was considering something like this for my APs. I just worry the APs might not be capable of much above ~1Gbps per client anyhow.

Any suggestion on how I can test this? The single device would have to have wifi-6 and 4 internal antennas to max out the 2.5g of the AP. I have two macbook pros, but these wouldn't qualify (unless I use both to aggregate the speed).

Well that has been my experience with Qnap products. Poor construction, poor support, one time I had to convince their helpdesk that their firmware for a certain 10G switch which had an issue with flow control halving the throughput. Took months.

the only wifi 6 client I have is my pixel 6 pro phone, and it can pull around ~650mbps from my R750 at the end of my driveway. I'd imagine it's only using half the MIMO chains available or less on the R750's radio, so the R750 could probably scale pretty well with more clients pulling simultaneously, but I've never had that happen IRL so I haven't given a second thought to mine being connected via "only" 1gbE. maybe when I turn my house into a stadium I'll drop it on multigig

sorry to say but QNAP stuff is absolute crap.
I guess only time will tell. My first qnap product, still too new for me to have any other opinion other than it supports all my current devices in a single package without issues so far.

My 'testing' is not scientific, but similar to yours... I have a ~920Mbps internet connection & fast.com tells me I'm getting 920Mbps from an Xperia 1ii in the same room as an R650.
Since I'd never gotten more than ~700Mbps from previous generation Ruckus APs, I was guessing this AP wouldn't do much more than 1Gbps per client even if I had 2.5Gb wiring.
Be nice if someone could confirm though - if koifish59 comes back and says ”I got 2Gb" or something crazy like that, then I'll be tempted to buy some cheap multi-gig copper hardware.

$200 for the Aquantia Aqs-107 NBase-T module and another $100 for the ruckus multigig PoE+ injector
I keep seeing articles vaguely mention 1gig injectors probably work with 2.5gig ethernet. I'm wondering if I should blow $60 on a 10GTek module & try out the ~10 different models of 1gig injector I've got in my box-of-junk.

Ruckus has 2 separate models for PoE injectors that's specific to 1g and multi gig:
902-0180-US00 (10/100/1000mbps)
902-1180-US00 (multigigabit)

So I'm assuming not ALL 1g PoE injectors will be able to go higher. If any injectors do, then I think it might just be straight passthrough from the switch. But if there something inside the injector that negotiates the speed and it's not advertised as multigig, then I'm assuming over 1g won't work.
I could be wrong, haven't played with enough PoE injectors to confirm.

So I bought a 10GTek ASF-10G-T, plugged it into my ICX7150-C12P, and used a bunch of old injectors I had lying around to power a Ruckus R650 AP.

Every single injector passed through a 2.5Gb link, and maintained it during iPerf testing.

I think you'd be very unlucky to find a nominally "1Gb" injector which didn't actually do 2.5Gb.


Just for info, the injectors I tested:-
60W: Ruckus NPE-5818, Ruckus GRT-480125A (740-64216-001)
802.3at: Edimax Pro GP-101IT, Cisco Meraki MA-INJ-4
802.3af: Allied Telesis AT-6101G, PowerDsine PD-3001GC/AC, Versa VX-PI1000GB, Phihong POE21U-1AF
