Findings with Asrock W790-WS, Xeon SPR-SP D0, and BCLK OC (and lack thereof)

BCLK change PCIe USB / Sata clock too. depends on your GPU how high you can go.
108mhz is very high, rare reached by others.
SPR-SP have a fused per core power limit, much above 4Ghz is not possible or result in crashes.
i could OC my QYFQ from 3.3Ghz (default) to 3,9Ghz. but if you already have 4ghz boost or 3,7ghz there is not much room.
be happy to have a cheap CPU on that platform.

But how you get so high OC speed in your QYFQ if you can just change the BCLK?

BCLK 118mhz, don't work with modern PCIe GPU, only rare GPU or BMC VGA (not avail. with ASRock W790 R2.0)

ASRock W790 (original, not cheaper v.2) has separate clock for PCIe which allows higher BCLK overclocking without rendering modern GPU or NVMe drives inoperable.

Does anyone have the toturial for the overlock of the ES cpu in W790? I can just let the QYG6 at 108 bus speed with 2.35, 1.8V in. Larger than 108, I can not enter the Ubuntu 22.04 system.

which board rev. do you have ? the first with Hyper BCLK engine or the R2.0 without ?

Just ordered a QYFS for my W790 WS thanks to you guys.
Have you tested BIOS 9.01 or should I stick to 7.01?
Any advice of a first time W790 user?

QYFU work fine with Asrock W790 WS 7.01 bios.

Regarding BIOS setup, i was intending to follow this Reddit recommendation :

• OC Tweaker->CPU Configuration->
  • Power Performance Tuning->BIOS Controls EPB
    • Energy Performance Bias->Performance
• Advanced->CPU Configuration->
  • CPU C1 auto demotion->Enabled
  • CPU C1 auto undemotion->Enabled

Should I also enable Enhanced Halt State C1E?
Don't find any reference in the AsRock W790 WS manual regarding C0 though!

On the first boot enter the bios and make C0/C1 state.
8.01 bios OK. the 9.01 not so good.

Installed everything and I get an error 00 with the QYFS.
Tried to reseat it, tried with 1 RDIMM in A2....
I am at a bit of a loss to be honest :-(

I have the same setup. I updated the BIOS, and it worked. I'm not sure which one it was off the top of my head, but it was between 4.01 and 7.01 I think.

Yes, QYFS in Asrock W790 (not R2.0). Another thing that got me once was that the heatsink/CPU wasn't installed right and the system didn't see it. 00 can mean that it doesn't sense a valid CPU IIRC.

They are fastened. I did it a bit more but at this point, as I don't have a torque screwdriver, I am afraid it will break if I put more force into it...
I might remove the CPU again tomorrow and look for more angles on the pins, but it's quite tough to capture.

Turns out connecting PCIe side plugs without any PCIe device connected is mandatory
LGA4677 beginner's mistake!
Hope this can serve as a cautionary tale to others !
