Decided just to make a dedicated thread for when we find deals instead of doing one-off threads. I'm already thinking about getting another chassis as a cloud lab especially if PigLover can find a 50dba option!

Lot of 4x Intel Xeon E5645 $510 ends (Feb 09, 2013 19:39:23 PST)
Lot of 2x Intel Xeon E5607 $199 BIN
Just something for our Aussie/ NZ friends to look at. Lot of 2x E5606 in AU.
Intel Xeon L5520 @ $59.99 each OBO
Single Intel Xeon L5530 $80 - I bought two of these this week for $75 ea.

Pair of L5520 - $120 OBO. Has many in stock. Looks like a seller that is buying the C6100's in 500 unit quantities so probably gets 4,000 of these in a go.

Thats funny, I have bought from this seller amycomic. Take a look at his other auctions. He does this every couple months, unloads a bunch of good stuff at one time. Gotten some good deals. I bought some hds and one showed up at only have capacity, sent them the WD test report and they sent a replacement hd no questions.

Bought a batch of 5 New Intel Quad Port i340-T4 from him. Think they came out to around $115 each.

I would take a stab at the LSI 9285-8e but I need a controller with Internal ports that I can put CacheCade on.

I've been looking for a bunch of cheap i340/i350 T4s too, at the moment they cost about $200 on ebay, still way too overpriced.

I'll stick to my 2 tx/rx queues 82574L for now.

The netgear 8 port (800) and 24 port (4500) 10g-base-T are out now in channel - limited QTY in usa.

Nobody wants 5500 series if they have 5600 the AES really kicks butt. I'll have an E5502, E5504 available super cheap soon. Low end but gets the job done.

I do need to find two cheap 5600 series for flashing my mac pro to 5,1 - anything that works since it will run ESXi 5.1 for osx 10.8 client/server hosting. Really doesn't have to be fast since it's the only legal way to virtualize esxi (ECC)

If you are going to fill a rack you may like something like this, 44 Gig ports, and HP has lifetime warranty on their Procurve switches.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181079047500?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

This one has 68 Gig ports. I bid on this one but currently not winning.

These can do dual power supplies. I have a new bare 4204 which is the 4U unit and I am just looking for an extra pw and the Gig Modules.

76.8 Gbps fabric.

20gbps per 10gbase-T

so 3 ports safely maximum. hmm no thanks.

8 Port switch should have 160Gbps non-blocking fabric, 24 port 480gbps.

the 4208 would be blocking unless you run just two 10gigabit ports (???).

Big mess when it comes to ISCSI/FCOE/etc when the switch can't handle the traffic and then has to buffer/flow control, runs out of buffer. yadda.

I'd check out the 8 or 12 port netgear models, see if you can get demo pricing ;)

I picked up 2x L5530 chips for $150 total the other day. There are likely still tons of 5520's out there. Maybe just will take a day or two.

Filling a C6100 is turning quite expensive (still cheap for what you get though). Just the volume of ram sticks, cpus, drive holders etc soon adds up.

If you are feeling dangerous, I have an idea on the drive trays:
Since these were Supermicro based (first gen a clone, second [this] gen a Dell re-design) I am curious if SM trays fit. The appropriate generation of SM server's parts list yields the following part number for a 2.5" tray - MCP-220-00047-0B

There is a seller on eBay selling such a tray for 3.25 with 1.64 shipping. Worth a roll of the dice?

Edit: well, I just spent a few bucks to give it a shot. I'll report back either way.

Yep the main boards were Supermicro but not sure it translates in to the rest of the unit. Would be great if it does.

Thanks for taking the time to test.

I have a pair of C6100s with 2.5" bays heading my way. When they arrive, I'll test the HP and Supermicro 2.5" sleds to see if they fit - or can be made to fit.
