Are these the sleds? I need 48 at this point. Also: The Supermicro sleds do not fit, and there are no simple modifications that will make them work.

Accepted. Now to get a 2.5 C6100.Put offer in for $80. I'll report back if I win. Don't want to get a $300 C6100 and pay $500 in trays.
Don't forget the bare bones chassis has no trays or rails.8x L5520 * $50ea = 400
24x 4GB * $15ea = 360
Chassis * $225ea = 225
= $985 w/o tax & ship to BYO. Unless you want more, $899 is way to go.
Not if you include trays and rails which the bare bones doesn't.And the Vista deal includes both PSUs, which easily makes up the difference in the costs you noted.
Yep that is by far the strength of that deal. You can half populate and bring it up to full population over time saving a large initial cost. Non-L5520 / 24GB configs will also be more cost effective. Best to shop around for the other parts though as I thought the price for Vistas CPUs to be on the pretty steep side.Vista's deal lets you be more flexible with the end product. If you want the "standard" configuration and don't care about running w/out the secondary PSU, no fuss, no muss, then the $899 deal is pretty good. But if you don't want X5520s, if you want more than 24GB/node, or if you need any other deviation, then Vista's deals is better.
For my case shipping is moot as I need to use my corporate DHL account which works out much cheaper than seller quotes I have seen. It is, however, a fairly standard mark up method for sellers so well worth noting.Besides - once you start the process you'll learn Justin is just a joy to work with. He'll get first shot at any further Dell refurb purchases I make.
Also - Vista/Justin's shipping offer is very reasonable. Make sure you look at the price+shipping, not just the price. Some of the $899 offers that have come and gone have had very high shipping costs.
Great info, thanks for taking the time. Also: The Supermicro sleds do not fit, and there are no simple modifications that will make them work.
Too true. All luck.Yeah, but I don't think you can actually count on that. Its luck of the draw as they pull them out to ship.
Haha, that would be a significant bonus. One last **possible** benefit of buying from Vista: Bonus parts! My first C6100 included four Infiniband cards.
that is the same guy i used. in that deal, you are still paying $44/chip - basically, I just negotiated him down to applying the same price to a quantity of 8.There are lots of 10 for $425 plus 15 shipping with an offer option Lot of 10 Intel Xeon L5520 2 26GHz 8MB LGA1366 Slbfa 0735858207881 | eBay may be hassle but bet someone here maybe interested in 2 xtras
