hmm if 8 cores are coming, then do the intel slides of Xeon E performance improvements of 1.73x improvement on 4 yr refresh and 1.36x improvement on gen to gen refer to Xeon E 6 core or 8 core ?

6 core. The 8 core is still a bit off but planned for Q4.

That sounds better - would hate for 8 core to only have 1.36x better then gene on gen

Oh wow, their next big thing is to make the high end parts comparable to commodity parts from 3 years ago. The only thing that's surprising here is that intel is actually doing anything to try to make this product line functional instead of using it to upsell. Thank god for competition from AMD.

Anyway for most people 8 cores and only 64gb ram is about the sensible limit unless you have a really cpu intensive workload that doesn’t need memory.
